I need to replace a few drop target decals on my G n' R machine. Is there any advice on how to do so, except just sticking them on? That's my first thought...just stick them on. But should I clean the plastic before? Need to mylar over them?

Any advice would be welcome! Thanks.

You should clean up the plastic well before applying the decals. I've heard of some people slightly roughing up the surface of the drop target with some medium grit sandpaper, but I don't think that's necessary at all. Just make sure you have a very clean surface to work with. It's up to you if you want to mylar over the targets, but I never have.

I agree with Jar. I would probably clean the targets with Novus #2 if they needed it and then isopropyl alcohol then just stick them on.

I've made target decals myself with regular adhesive backed paper. In that case it's a good idea to use Mylar but I don't usually use mylar over target decals.

Thanks, Lindsey. I wanted to clean them up a little just because they're dirty. Thanks for the reccos on what to use. I got the Novus 2 and will make sure to use the alcohol as well.

My GnR didn't have decals and the drop targets were filthy. I just replaced the plastic targets (they're cheap enough) and just stuck the decals right on. The decals I got were glossy, so I'm not worried about putting mylar on them...plus, due to the angle of those drops, they're not getting bashed too hard. When I put new decals on my BK2K, I put mylar over them since they take a bit more of a fast/direct beating.

This may seem obvious but I'll point it out anyway. Once you've cleaned the targets you don't want to touch the area that the decal will stick to or the adhesive side of the decal with your fingers.

Beings that the drop targets drop even when the machine is off, whats the best way to physically put these on?

Just pull the drop assembly out. It's just being held on by 4 screws or so. Comes right off. You have to remove the coil to take the assembly off the game...but it's not that hard. If you don't want to, you can probably just put the decals w/ the playfield up and the drop assembly dangling.

RH...where did you get your drop targets for GnR? I haven't seen any in the usual spots I check.

I know Marco doesn't list them under GnR parts. Unless they're generic...I checked Bay Area too and no luck. BUT, it's cool that Bay Area has the rose shooter and some other stuff that I hadn't seen around. :)

Depends on the game. There are a lot of different drop target mechanisms out there but the answer is the same in pretty much every case. Take the target out of the machine.

Got my decals on this weekend. Was able to put them on with just the glass off. Cleaned them up nicely with some isopropyl, and they look great! Replaced the rubbers on my GnR as well and it's looking/playing awesome right now.

Check the Part No. 545-5048-01 in the BTTF manual, and see if it's the same. IPBD.org will have the manual if you don't have a copy.
