One of the speakers are dead in my Gyruss. I contacted Bob, but his speakers will not fit.

Anyone have a source for a drop in replacement?

Or better yet, a spare set?

Thanks,

Mike

I have had two gyruss boards and only got one speaker sound. Swap the wiring from the good speaker to the dead speaker and see if it works.

I had a speaker go bad in my Gyruss a while back and if it was not Bob that had them it was Arcadeshop.

what size is your original? i had a dead one in my Gyruss and replaced it with a same-sized spare from a parted cab but neither of the ones in there (the dead one or the one that worked) looked like they were original.

Ate you sure it's the speaker and not one of the amps?

Yes, I plugged in another speaker to test, and it's definitely the speaker.

The speakers do not look shielded and are the original speakers.... They have the double sided tape from holding the original shroud down. Oddly enough they do not seem to interfear with the monitor.

It looks like the center of the mounting holes are 5 1/2" apart centered. and the sprakers are 1 5/8" tall... the height is an issue as well... if they are to tall they will cause an issue with the shroud.

"Made in Japan" TESS 8 ohm 15watt/40watt max

Those look almost too nice to be original equipment.... I would expect to see something with a cheap paper cone (maybe those are? I can't tell).
The manual says 8 Ohm 6W, shielded. I'll have to take a look at mine tonight and see what's in there.

i didn't have an issue with unshielded speakers in mine, but i can see where that could be a problem.

i want to say i put a 5" speaker in mine and it seemed too small, but i can't recall exactly.

About a year ago the speaker in my gyruss went too. I Happened to be picking up the kids after school and saw that someone was throwing out a sony boom box. Would you believe the speakers in that thing fit perfectly. They were of a higher wattage but work great. Don't ask what model, that was a year ago and I could only scavenge the speakers.

OK, I just measured mine and they're just as Mike stated: the mounting holes are 5-1/2" apart, and you need to watch the depth (~1-3/4") if you plan to use the original black cardboard monitor shroud without modification.
My speakers look similar to his, but the cones are all black paper, with a larger dome in the center. Mine are also unshielded, so I guess they determined that wasn't necessary and saved the additional cost. Mine are original and still taped to the shroud... so I didn't yank that off to read the specs off the back of the speaker.
A friend of mine has a Gyruss half torn apart in his barn.... I'll have to check out the speakers next time I'm in there.

Went to Autozone today, and walked by this and took a double take...

They are slim, and looked to be the right size... bought two.

Sound check.... :D

So I had to snip off the loop at the top, other than that, all good.

digging up an old thread since the gyruss I just picked up needs speakers.

My gyruss also has the tess brand made in japan speakers 8ohm 40w in there.

I will email mike to see if he was happy with the autozone speakers. Has anyone tried any others? I was just going to start looking locally for a solution.

Autozone still has the speakers

They work fine, and best of all fit. I'm happy with them.

I would try partsexpress.com as they might have a better price, but it's easier to return items local.

Nice info guys.

Question: does the board have some sort of audio test? My cabinet has some jacked up wiring (splices/etc). I'm thinking my next project is to restore the whole machine and one of the first things is to make sure its actually wired correctly (ie, there is stereo and not some hacking in dual-mono wiring).

Sorry for the ramble, I should just get in there and take a closer look.

I tried these speakers from autozone in my Gyruss. One speaker was out. They fit fine after you remove the top clip. The speakers state that they are 4/8 ohm compatible. After playing one game at a fairly high volume the amp on the board overheated and cut out completely. I believe since these are meant to be car speakers they are most likely 4 ohms. I did not want to take any more chances with them so I'm still on the hunt for a replacement. For now, I've been using external home stereo speakers and have not had an issue since.

Mine is still working without any problems... I will have to measure mine and see what Ohm rating I get...

Looking at the datasheet for the LA4460 sound amp, it states "Load Resistance 4 to 8 ohms"...
