Replaced the Battery in my Neo Geo MVS with a button cell!

Why on Earth did you install it on the solder side of the PCB?

Cause if I mounted on the component side I would have to completely disassemble the MVS assembly to change the battery. This way I only have to unplug the board and info the feet screws.

How often do you have to change the battery?

I totally agree. Sending the extra 5 mins it takes to take it apart is better than the less elegant solution of placing the battery holder in an unoriginal location.

BTW this technique is very common and its called a keystone battery mod. I didn't realize why till I noticed some battery holders I picked up last week said keystone on the bottom of them.

Funny, I thought it was clever, besides even if I mounted it on the component side it still wouldn't be the original way it was.

Once or twice a year? I hope not. I thought it's supposed to last a good 4-5.

Either way, I don't think guys are trying to crap on your thread, just curious about why you chose to make a video showing a method that most guys wouldn't recommend and why you're posting about something that CM already has a guide for.

I don't mean any offense by it either. You're a step ahead of me as I still need to do the swap on my board. :)

LOL I make a video for pretty much everything I do.

Still why wouldn't it be recommended, there it's nothing wrong with it, are you going to tell me that lithium batteries must be oriented with the positive side up?

Haha, true. I'm a subscriber so I should know better. :D

Hey, like I said, no offense. Just saying why I think guys are more "WTF?" over this than "Oh cool!"

Really I thought it was a great idea, i could probably change the battery just reaching under the board in the cabinet.

I also plan on putting in one of those drain plug valves with a house and oil filter re-locator on my cars.

You can change the oil and filter without going under the car!

Not as good of an idea as your Virtual Boy cabinet. LOL.

I still don't know how to play a Virtual Boy without being in an uncomfortable position or looking like an ass. :)

Wait, the what now?

Also, on the original topic... hey, I'm impressed, I'll leave it at that. I suck at these mods and I know those batteries are a disaster waiting to happen

I think I said un-original location.

CM's guide is to replace the original w/ a rechargable battery. This is good for guys that run their machines all the time. It's not good for guys that run their NG machines every other month.

The original guides for the Keystone mod are found here.

There's a risk that a ground connector, screw, or some other piece of conductive material could short the battery to itself or an adjacent pad. A minor risk, I admit, but not one I would take to make an infrequent maintenance task slightly easier.
