This is a continuation of some ideas that were being discussed in the 'Forum Guidelines' thread: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=96364

It's been continued here to highlight the subject and to keep the related thread focused exclusively on this topic.

It seems several people have posted that they like the idea of a monitor sub-forum.

Breaking out monitors into their own section gives everyone one more section to read, though it looks like the benefits outweigh the problem.

I agree that I wouldn't want to break it up any more than that. Tags could be used for individual monitor models.

An FAQ could provide basic information and maybe a list of tags (with links).

Speaking of FAQ and sticky threads. I'd be very interested in putting up a bunch of FAQs etc, possibly on the main KLOV site with links here for some of them, though someone has to write them and for a variety of reasons that person isn't me.

Back to the monitors sub-forum. If anyone doesn't think it is a good idea, please speak up now.

Back to a monitors sub-forum... What is the interest level in breaking out 'Cabinets and Cosmetics'? One person suggested it above...

I just added a poll. It closes in a week though if I see a clear trend I may take action on it as early as today.

while a section for monitors is cool, I see no real issue with finding monitor related threads as it sits now. Posting a monitor question in the regular tech help section will still recieve the same viewing even if it was in another section I would think.

I think we can see the results of "splintering off" threads about specific games and specific fixes at coinopspace...

I like it all in one section, However its not a big deal if its split up. I will go with the flow:)

I can see a monitor subforum, since there's so many monitor questions and it's a bit technical. I don't see a reason to make any other subforums, though.

I voted for the sub-forum but like has been said don't get too carried away.

I think cosmetics should have a sub-forum being that it is not really technical.

When you have all help and repair in one forum it gets to be too crowded but if you make subforums for controls, boards, ps, etc. it gets to the point where there are too many to read and someone who might have an answer to a question never sees the thread because it is in a forum they didn't read.

Anyways, I like the idea of repair & help,/ monitor,/ cosmetics.

Also I do think that pinball should have thier own forums and not included in the video section, it gets hard enough to find things as it is.

Honestly, I dislike the new viewe very much. I mostly look in the arcade section. NOw I have to go back to the main section, find the correct video game one in the list where before they are all grouped together. Just my $0.02 worth.

I'd like to request that the forums be put back to the way they were. One of the best features of KLOV is the fact that it is a historical, searchable database of past issues and solutions. While I do understand that the search function allows you to receive results from multiple forum sub-groups, I think that even further fragmenting of posts into more groups is not necessary, and adds confusion when deciding on the most appropriate place to post.

On the response side of things, I know that many of the technical experts here at KLOV log in periodically and check the top posts in the Repair forums. They respond to the posts that request help they can offer. They may read every topic in the repair group and select those in which they feel they have expertise. It seems very possible that somone new, like myself, might know they need help, but post in the wrong specific repair sub-group. The experts in the area that help is needed might now only frequent the sub-groups they feel their expertise resides in, and would miss posts that they would have seen and been able to help with, had the repair group remained one, larger, unfragmented group.

I do want to recognize that the creators and admins of this forum do a great service to the collecting community, often with no reward or compensation. I also appreciate the fact that creating new sub-forums might be an effort to create more meaningful, arcade related posts; and less off-topic discussions. In my opinion though, further fragmenting of the groups will drive off those of us who remain silent on the majority of off-topic threads, and use the forum for sharing stories of arcade purchases, restoration, gameplay, repair and general collecting interest.

Thanks much, Jeff

Hey guys

i like the sub forums because it helps newbs like myself find more specific info, until such time as you get used ot the forum softwsare an layout

after using the forum software and getting used to the structure of the forum AND the ebb and flow of information in the various sections, the sub divisions become less of an issue. thats why leaving tags capability is useful to add value to searches...

ps took me about a month of periodic (and constant or so my wife says =o) ) use before i was familiar and comfortable with the forum et al.
