Repair Party @ Channelmanic's house!
July 23rd, starting at 9am
Ending at ??:??pm (evening)

Now that the shop is finished, it's time to have a get-together for repairing boards, monitors, etc... We'll fire up the grill and have hotdogs & polish sausages, chips, sodas, beer, etc...

And to celebrate, I'll be opening a special bottle that I've been saving for such an occasion. My bottle of Moskovskaya Vodka (Russian) that I brought back in my suitcase from Barcelona a few years back. (You can't buy it in the USA, but you can taste it at Red Square Vodka Bar in Vegas.)

I'll be working up some PowerPoint slides to discuss troubleshooting techniques and breaking down the boards into their subsections for more advanced troubleshooting. I'll also cover how some of the circuits work.

There will be 4 benches and 3 solder stations set up... 1 scope... 1 logic probe... 1 cap tester... 2 DMMs... 1 CRT tester/rejuvenator... and plenty of hand tools.

What to bring: Testbeds? (I only have 1 JAMMA test bed), test equipment (logic probes, scopes, cap testers), parts/capkits you want to install on your gear, etc. portable chairs too!

What to do: RSVP, RSVP, and RSVP. Once you do that, I'll give you my address.

If you are coming in from out of town, let me know and I'll point you to nearby hotels. Also, let me know your budget or I'll point you to the nicer ones (Hampton Inn is a good one nearby)

Thanks!

Raymond

PS: If you have gozer5454's book and want me to sign my pic, I'd be more than happy to.

What boards do you have teed up, and do you plan on posting any of this? Might be a good read. Or is this only for those in attendance?

It's for those in attendance. It's my way of getting feedback on things I'm working on for a long term project. :)

I already knew that, but thought I'd ask just the same - have a good party!

I have plenty of galaga bords in need of repair if you need something to demonstrate on.

Thanks, but I have three here to repair/resell if I ever get caught up on everything. :)

If this was only in a drivable town! Have a great party!

I live in Houston, but I could certainly see myself driving up there. Whether or not I decide to stay in hotel or not.....whatever roflmao. I think this would be a great learning experience for me, I'm still fairly new at this stuff. I have a decent grasp of how things work, but to run through tests with boards and chassis and diagnose more complicated issues....yeah i'm still working on that lol.

I would be there in a HEARTBEAT with soldering iron in-hand to help... if only it were closer!!! Maybe we'll luck out and my company will send me to TX on short notice!

If you want to stop by and visit just give me a PM.

RJ

PM Sent! Been looking forward to this for a while, should I bring any tools, ESR meter, rejuvenator, DMM?

I have a rejuvenator and plenty of tools. I also have an ESR meter and B&K 470 CRT tester/rejuvenator with the most used adapters for video games.

I only have 2 DMMs and 2 logic probes though...

Picked up 2 new logic probes and another multimeter so I'll have 1 per workbench.

I'm hoping to have the HP logic analyzer probes wired up by the party time so we can play with it too... and I'm toying with the idea of picking up another one locally.

If you have a pile of EPROMs to erase, bring them. I'll have at least 2 large industrial erasers (77 at a time!) we can have running.

Shit the bed... I'd be there in a heartbeat if I was anywhere near TX. I've got a small stack of boards here that would be all kinds of fun to get some help on.

Dang, missed me by a week. Pretty much any other week would have worked for me. :(
