Hi, I am not sure if this is posted in the correct forum, and I apologize if it is not. I own 11 games and half of them need repairs. I am looking for a qualified repair tech or hobbyist to repair my games, preferably in my home if possible. I live in Exeter, a small town between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, PA. If anyone can direct me to a person or website it would be much appreciated, thank you very much!

Welcome to klov!

Welcome to klov! I hope someone's able to help you!

(I referred Jay to this forum, met him on Facebook, when he posted that he needed help)

So of the 5 or 6 games that don't work - what are they (manufacturer and title) and what symptoms do they have? Some fixes might be easier than you think. ;)
Do you know how to solder? Do you know how to use a voltmeter?

Welcome to the forum.

I have a Gottlieb Q*Bert that will not power on at all, a Midway Rampage World Tour that plays blind, a Midway Hydro Thunder with a jumbled screen, a Bally Tapper cocktail with a crackling sound coming from my speakers, an Atari Battlezone cabaret that will work once in a while, I believe it may be a board issue, and a Data East Commando that comes on with a blank screen. I have done some light soldering, and would be able to figure out a multimeter. I just ordered Arcade Repair Tips DVDs this morning, with hopes that they can at least get me started.

The board just may be the problem with my Battlezone. We can definitely set something up so you can take a look at it. PM me and we'll get the ball rolling. Thanks, and thanks everyone else for welcoming me!

both need a capacitor kit installed and while you're at it, install a new flyback transformer on there too
learn how to DISCHARGE a monitor from you tube before mucking around too much back there
find out what kind of monitor/chassis(printed circuit board) are in there so you know what capacitor kits to get

good luck

Thanks for the advice!

On the qbert, make sure the interlock switches on the back door and coin door are either pulled out, or the back door on, and coin door shut...then hit the switch on the top of the machine. If that doesn't work, it's a power supply issue. You'll know when it comes on because you'll hear ol Q say "hello, I'm turned on." To let you know he's ready to go. The others sound like board issues and monitor issues, and a cap kit might help aid the monitor issues.

I have checked the interlock switches, and they are good, so I am going to take your advice and seek out a new power supply. I found a switching power supply on arcadeshop which looks like what I may need. Thanks for the help!

While I am thinking about it, one of the best things to learn in the beginning is how to measure with a digital multimeter (dmm). This will help you with learning more about the hobby and also help you diagnose and troubleshoot interactivity with forum members. It was an instrumental skill in my first rebuild project and probably eliminated a lot of confusion in troubleshooting down the road.
