Hey everyone!

I just fixed the monitor issue with my standup Namco cabinet, it is a baseball game called "Great Sluggers" - The problem's now,

Can't Play:

I found the switches near the coin mech that are Labeled Advance, Auto/Manu, and High score reset. I tried depressing the automatic/manual button into the locked down (manual) position and tried playing the game. I'm not sure how to tell whether or not the game is in automatic mode or the proper procedure for changing the mode setting.

Using the diagnostic mode I found out that the number 3 button on 2P doesn't have a switch inside, and that the right direction switch of the joystick (also 2P) is non-responsive.

No Sound:

I attempted to find the volume knob according to the manual which placed it somewhere near the middle of the PCB, but it ended up being a flat penny sized black wheel near the edge of it. I adjusted it both ways and used the sound test screen
to confirm that there was no sound.

I then followed the wires from the speaker and they appeared to be coming strait out of the Jamma connector with no amplifier for the speaker, I'm guessing that is why I have no sound.

I'm New What is This:

While I was looking around in the cab I found a chip about 2 1/2 inches long and about 3/8's wide I can't remember what the markings were but it was on a sort of riser. There were two very similar chips on the board but with different numbers on them, above them is a opening where the chip I found could be inserted.

What do you mean buy "Can't play?" When you try to play a game, what happens?

Not all games need external amplifiers for sound, not familiar with Great Slugger's, though.

The numbers on the chips will help identify what they are. Pictures would also be helpful.

Here is the original topic that was created about the chip. There is also some pics available.

Fixed

So the chip in question turned out to be the sound ROM and just needed to be re-inserted to the PCB. There were a couple of openings to it took me 2-3 tries but when it worked it actually worked!!

Sound issue is solved, Gameplay issue solved.

All i have to do now is figure out why Right doesnt work on the 2P joystick. I already changed the micro-switch, and tested the circuit for continuity, but nothing. When I put the game in test mode (dip sw1) all other the other buttons work...

Out of curiosity, did you take it off that little PCB/adapter or not? And what was the correct location (specified using the letters & numbers along the edges of the board) for it?

Yes, I had to remove the chip from the adapter, or whatever you would call it. I ended up installing it horizontally near the word "VOICE" figures...
