Is there a know list of techs that offer repair services for arcade monitors?

I'm in the central Ohio area and would like to find someone that could offer some affordable repair service. I've thought about contacting a couple TV repair shops but I wonder how many of them actually work on arcade CRTs.

Thanks,
Jeff

What do you consider "affordable"? There are a lot of us who repair monitors for various rates, but not everyone has the resources or abilities to fix every model.

www.arcadecup.com isn't that far from you, and can do most everything you need, but only you can determine whether he is "affordable"...

Thanks for the fast reply. I guess affordable = not really more than 50~60% cost of a new/replacement unit.

I saw that page you pointed out but Chad seems to be 30~45 days out for repairs, plus, WI is still a good bit away from OH. I'd like to find someone within an hour or two drive of central OH that works on these things. A known member of the forums that knows what they are doing works for me as it really doesn't have to be a "shop." Actually, I would prefer to help support someone else's hobby.

I have an LG 25" tube that has some weird Chinese chassis board that needs worked on. I believe it's very close to a Wei-ya 825H. The markings on the pcb are HH-25-29-C. I used Bob Robert's chassis ID page to ID this board and that 825H is the closest match.

I'm not really a CRT person, but more than capable of the work, but would rather leave this stuff to people that know their way around this stuff. I do not know how diagnose problems on CRTs based on symptoms, so it would be easier and faster to have someone else help me.

BTW, this Chinese chassis board has a flyback with a model number of "BSC27-3029" so if anyone knows of a suitable replacement part, I believe that's one of the problems. It still works, but if I'm capping the board, I want to replace this too. I've read that the zoom-out of the screen on power off is a symptom of a flyback dying.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well, a NEW replacement 25" (24.8") monitor will cost you about $400-500, so you're "affordable" price is about $200.

"Close" is relative. The post office can ship a chassis fairly cheaply. I don't know of any monitor repair shops in Ohio, but you may be able to find someone to help you.

But you might just want to buy another Chinese replacement for it. Brand new is probably $100 or less from AlvaAmusement...

Repair Centers or Forum Members in Ohio that work on arcade monitors

I guess there's new NEW and then new-to-me NEW :) So, a used CRT would probably run 150~250ish, so reasonable repairs on a chassis board seems 80~160 and that's what I'm finding.

Why I'm looking for close is because I would like to take the CRT & chassis to a repair center so it can be repaired and calibrated in one go.

I sent AlvaAmusements an email and never heard back from them. They don't seem to have a consumer friendly site. Buying a cheap replacement was my first attempt as that seemed the most cost effective. I got one from 8liners.com, which was actually the same model sold by AlvaAmusements. I put that chassis board in and ended up with more issues.

With the new chassis, the H-Size is off the hook and turning the pot all the way down won't make the screen fit and it has a V-Hold issue too. I'll adjust the V-Hold, it'll stay for a few seconds, then start bouncing.

So, I don't know where to being to troubleshoot a "new" chassis, much less a used one already in need of work, which is the reason I started looking for someone that has more experience in this area.

I think before I go into more details about the original monitor issues, I'll keep this thread on the intended topic and if I can't find someone relatively local, I'll open up a new thread after some more research to see if I can get some help from you guys online if I can't find someone around me. I've been looking over this forum the past few weeks and it seems to be a great group of people willing to help each other out, so any valuable input is much appreciated.

Thanks again,
Jeff
