Rent-A-Car for picking up arcades?

Where did you find a hitch for $240? Toyota quoted $700. At $240, it would definitely be worth it.

Frax - The biggest game I have fit in there was an Asteroids. The passenger seat had to be almost all the way forward, so lucky there was no passenger. My girlfriend drove that from Vegas to Reno with 2 big dogs in the car. I am really surprised I am not single now. I had a pin in my Scion xA for the trip. I would have gladly traded for the trip to lessen the stress level, but my car is a stick, and she can't drive it. The Rav4 is a 2010, so it might be a bit longer than the older ones. I know some of them look really short.

The one I got for my Scion xB cost about $200 total, including the light kit. Let's see...HitchSource.com. Had to install it myself, of course, but since the xB frame already had convenient holes, it wasn't a big deal to get out the torque wrench and bolt it on. I honestly haven't used it yet, because I haven't gotten any games that needed it yet! It's only a class II hitch (350 lb tongue weight, 3500 lb gross trailer weight), but that's more than enough for a small 4x8 trailer and a couple of games.

Looking at HitchSource.com, it seems like a Class III hitch (500 lb tongue weight, 5000 lb trailer) can be had for a little over $200 including the lighting harness.

I have a Nissan Murano, and I can fit pretty much any standard size game in it. I so far have carried a Baby Pac, Dynamo HS-5, Gaplus, Simpsons 4 player and Radical Bikers in it.

As for renting a box van, I found that Budget is the cheapest, but you still have to be careful about the distance you drive. If you need to pick up something far away and it is large or multiple machines then a U-haul trailer like this one is the cheapest cause you don't have to pay per mile. There is another ramp trailer that is larger if you have a bigger load.

My Dad is in this photo: :D

Also the trailer says its speed limit is 55 MPH, but I just ignored it. ;)

That's the 4x6 with trailer I think it's 19.95 per 24 hour. Great for 1-2 machine jobs. Just make sure you load stuff towards the front and balance it and you'll be fine.

Well, this is what they say about the mileage restrictions:
"MILEAGE IS UNLIMITED WHEN THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN THE STATES OF NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND GEORGIA. WHEN TRAVELING OUTSIDE OF THESE STATES, MILEAGE WILL BE 150 FREE MILES PER DAY AND $.25 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL MILE."

Glad to see it's not such an unusual thing to consider renting a car for this sorta thing. I would like to get a hitch + trailer, but I kinda feel like putting a hitch on my current vehicle would be like rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. I gotta get rid of this car at some point, I'm just trying to figure out if I should trade it in for a low-mileage utility vehicle, or just use rent-a-cars for that and get something high-mileage for personal use. I guess it all comes down to how much I plan to haul machines around, which I'd imagine would be a once a month thing.

Just as an FYI, with U-Haul trailer rentals, spend the extra $5 to get an enclosed 4x8 or 5x8. Then you don't have to worry about rain, snow, dust, etc. ;)

And most of the time, it's the same price as the open style trailers, like the motorcycle trailer being shown above... Last time I rented it was only like $25 for 24 hours. I used to move my DJ equipment to weddings and parties with them.

Yah, that doesn't work with a Propcycle as you can see. :D

Yes, but what is the interior height? I never measured it, but I was afraid they wouldn't stand up in the enclosed trailer.

Hitched

I put a hitch on the Jeep Wrangler, wasn't much, installed with a light kit at a place that sold truck bed covers.

Then I'd just rent from UHaul, open or closed. If I was traveling far for the game, like Long Island to Rochester, I'd rent the trailer there and just drive it back one-way. Save a bit of gas. And covered's the way to go.

Because I have no real room for games now, I just take off the top and lash games to the roll bar.

Ya know... I don't know. I always thought I could stand in one without bending over, and I'm 5'8", but I also have a bad memory, and maybe I did have to stoop.

Argh.

Depending on how many you were moving, though... Could always stack a few sideways...? I just like the rainblock of it.

Uhaul has their equipment detailed on their site.
The 4x8 covered trailer interior is 8'1" x 4'1" x 4' (LxWxH)
The 5x8 interior is 8' x 4'8" x 5'4" (LxWxH)
The 5x10 interior is 9'10" x 4'9" x 4'7" (LxWxH)
The 6x12 interior is 11'7" x 6' x 5'5" (LxWxH)

Doors are obviously smaller than the interior. I'd go with the 5x8 and laying stuff down and be pretty happy, personally. Though it should be noted that none of these trailers have integrated ramps.

I think I got a 5x8 and only needed to haul two, so I laid them down side by side. My thought was that it would be too short to stand them up.

That's what I'm seeing looking at the dimensions. I'd never need to move more than 2 at once, I think, and at $18.95 a day, that's not a big amount of money.
