The CAPS abbreviation is already in use by the Classic Amiga Preservation Society. You may wish to choose something else to avoid confusion between the two groups.

I think I'd rather see time put into making the "Contribute" feature functional.

It sucks to go month after month after month without being able to add ALL of the games in your collection to your VAPS profile, simply because certain games aren't already in the database and you can't add anything. To me, that hurts the significance of the site.

VAPS, CAPS, MAPS, CRAPS, DOGTURDS...

I don't really care what it's called, as long as it's fully functioning.

Then go to the VAPS stats menu and vote on the existing entries. The whole point of this thread was because VAPS opened up to other game types and thousands of new submissions were just processed. The ability to add new entries will be turned back on once people are done helping deal what is in the queue already. Additional submissions for games already in the queue just clogs up the queue.

Actually, it's been abandoned by them. The Amiga group wanted to expand beyond Commodoreland so that renamed themselves the SPS - The Software Preservation Society. (softpres.org)

Well, you could keep the phonetic pronunciation and just add more letters...

VAAPPS - Video Arcade Amusement and Pinball Preservation Society

I was working hard to keep the name and acronym as short as possible.

Then go to the VAPS stats menu and vote on the existing entries.

There should be detailed instructions about how to do this on the page that tells you contributions aren't currently being accepted.

(Or at least a link to the "Please help the KLOV/IAM database" thread.)

While I like VAPS better, I wouldn't be opposed to the change to CAPS. Is there anything wrong with simply APS? This solves the "classic" debate as well as shortens the acronym.

How long will it be before someone starts wanting to add home systems or hand held games. Change can be good or complicated. Coinop or arcade keeps it simple.

Modern arcades have console games as one of their main attractions. I don't think it will be very long before guys, who that is the norm for, show up wanting to add them...

I think it is a vision thing. I actually don't have a problem with console or hand held games being added, as long as they are clearly categorized as such and someone looking in the database for just coin-op videogames (for example) doesn't have to see results cluttered with the non-coin-op items.

This shouldn't come as a total surprise though since Pinball, EM etc. were added, and I've had some console machines added to my VAPS profile for a while...

It also might be nice to see which coin-op machines have been ported. It: I like Rampart and I'm just curious which platforms it made it onto (I assume several, but I haven't looked).

At the moment, I would like to keep the consoles and hand held units mostly out of the game database for logistical reasons -- I don't want to add to a work queue until the current queue is gone and the submission system works a little more smoothly.

That is a really cool idea, and I really like Rampart as well. The UK magazine 'Retro Gamer' lists ports when they do a feature on any game. It is pretty cool to see that some of the games I only played on C64 were available on so many other systems. They also often describe differences between the ports and that is interesting info as well.

Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance (w/Gauntlet)

...and was in the works for the 7800 but cancelled late in the game. :)

Reactions to a name change same fairly split down the middle. For the time being I think I'm just going to use both names together and revisit the issue a month or two down the road after more new features are rolled out...
