The VAPS system already allowed pinball entries to be added, and now allows anything in the database to be added, due to my ideas of what makes sense as well as continuous requests I've gotten (If it is in the database, why can't I add it?).

Thus, I'd like to propose that maybe the Video Arcade Preservation Society (VAPS) might not be the most appropriate name anymore, and maybe the Classic Arcade Preservation Society (CAPS) works a tad better.

Note: While VAPS now allows more types of entries, I have not updated any of the stats pages to take this into account. I'd like the stats pages to be able to generate both overall stats and game type (ie: videogame) specific stats. So regardless of name, I'm not looking for videogame stats to get lost in the system...

we fear change

i like the idea wether the name changes or not, would be nice to add other things besides pins and vids.. ive come across alot of old nickel and dime operated stuff that i couldnt add due to how things are/were setup...

I like CAPS, it more closely resembles my vision of my perfect gameroom. I intend to add a few redemption machines as well as EM arcade machines and a skeeball machine.

How bout CARPS Classic Arcade Restoration & Preservation Society
Or CARPS Coin-Op Arcade Restoration & Preservation Society

"Classic" is a hornet's nest. Suggest leaving it as-is or coming up with some other moniker that omits "classic."

I'll throw my tokens in. On the forums we allow slot machines and juke boxes. Why not let people list them when they are in their game rooms.
So how about:
COMPS (Coin Operated Machine Preservation Society), or
COAMPS (Coin Operated Amusement Machine Preservation Society), or
CAAMPS (Coin-operated Arcade and Amusement Machine Preservation Society), or just
AAMPS (Arcade and Amusement Machine Preservation Society).

Although you will have to block some members trying to post their battery operated amusement machines if we go with the last one ;).

There's some good ones in there. I'm having a hard time deciding on which on I like the most.

I think John Lennon said it best when he sang...
When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

I think he means as far as what is considered 'classic'.

I wouldn't put any restrictions on what 'classic' meant. The only way that it would work would be without trying to define what classic meant.

See the announcement posts, etc. VAPS does allow slots and juke box and other entries now... There is a post in the annoucements section about this.

I think I'd rather see time put into making the "Contribute" feature functional.

It sucks to go month after month after month without being able to add ALL of the games in your collection to your VAPS profile, simply because certain games aren't already in the database and you can't add anything. To me, that hurts the significance of the site.

VAPS, CAPS, MAPS, CRAPS, DOGTURDS...

I don't really care what it's called, as long as it's fully functioning.

That's kind of what I meant. "Classic" by definition in this context implies a set of criteria that are different from person to person. Most people would agree that Asteroids is "classic" but that Target: Terror is not.

If "classic" isn't restricted (defined) at all, then why add it or change it from "video" in the first place? :) If the reason for changing the name is that "video" isn't accurate enough, "classic" is even less accurate.

As new names go, YellowDog is on the right track.

Well, you could keep the phonetic pronunciation and just add more letters...
