So, I'm rebuilding my Missile Command trackball and it seems as though two of the five bearings are kind of "captive" in this metal block (see pic).

Mild persuasion fails to get them to budge. Before I employ Major Persuasion, does anyone know a trick to removing these?

I use the head of a nail (place the head inside the middle of the barring) and then rock it back and forth in a circular motion until it comes out. If you need more leverage use a longer nail. Also give it a shot of liquid wrench or WD40 prior to using the nail. After you get it out make sure you clean all the WD40/LW out before you put the new one back in.

Worked like a charm - thanks!

I put a little kroil (penetrating oil) around the outside edges of the bearings, waited a couple minutes, then did the nail trick.

Both bearings popped right out.

Now on to cleanup and reassembly...

Thanks for this tip! This worked awesome for me. I was really having an issue getting them out with a screwdriver. Nail FTW!
