I've been unable to get the screws out of the top of the marquee bracket of a Ms. Pac-man cabinet in order to remove the marquee and was looking for suggestions on the best way to do this. The specific name of the tool needed would be a great help.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Those look like a torque plus pin head how rusty they are you may need to drill them out. or you could try one of these tools New Eazypower Spin It Out Damaged Screw Remover Set

Thats a secure torx bolt. You can get a really nice set of most of the security bits from harbor freight for under $10. As bad ass that looks though, as stated above, you may have to drill that guy out. I'd try cleaning it out and using the right bit first though. Its a good investment as most Midway games use those.

I have a set of the bits that loosen these, but I still think I do better with an old fashioned pair of pliers held vertically, squeeze the outside of the screw and twist until it comes out.

You can take a dremel tool with a fiber cutting disc and cut a slot in the head. Use a screw driver to back the screw out. The screw WAS a secure torx screw, get a set of bits from harbor freight, Bob Roberts use to have a nice set but is now out of stock.

Thanks everyone.

I can't seem to locate my good vise grips at the moment, but I do have a screw extractor set. But I wanted to avoid that. I have a Dremel with cutting disks, so I'll see what I can do if pliers don't work.

Looks like you could dig the crud out with a dental pick. Often the bits won't work if there's any junk in there.

I tried exactly that with little success. I still need the the actual tool to take these out.

It took a while but I managed to get three out of four out. As luck would have it a clean one holding the lower bracket underneath is the one I'm stuck on. (And on a Sunday no one in my area would have such a tool). :banghead:

Yes. I have long since gotten those screws out.

But Harbor Freight doesn't sell the screws themselves.

I'm debating on getting one of the screw auction shown in my last post.

Might be worth using a different type of screw at this point? Unless it's a "perfection" thing. Then I guess I understand. :) Haha.

Don't buy the ones for the xbox controllers. Those are tiny.

Seems like the Atari/Midway ones would be the best bet...

Whenever I replace rusty or damaged screws like these I just use black allen screws from Ace. Ace has such an awesome selection of all kinds of screws and whatnot.

As for suggestions on the earlier part of this thread, I too like to cut a slot using a dremel cutting wheel so that a standard screwdriver can unscrew it. Works really well.

In a pinch I've super-glued (also welded for that matter) a screwdriver to the nut, bolt whatever to get her out. Superglue comes off pretty easy with a scotchbrite and some rubbing alcohol. I have not had as good of luck un-welding my screwdriver.
