So I bought this cabinet from Noice. When he got it, there was blue Formica placed on the side of the cabinet. Noice removed the blue laminate only to find Contact Cement slathered all over the side of the cabinet as well the side art.
When I received the cabinet, I was surprised to see that the side art was still completely intact. There are areas missing where the (non original) Formica pulled off the original white Formica.
I carefully placed Goof Off all around the side art and scrubbed away. It actually removed the cement very well. I used a soft sponge to carefully scrub away at the side art. Goof Off can melt decals, CPOs, side art and etc. You need to be very careful not to get any Goof Off on your decals.
My next plan is to bondo the damaged areas of the cabinet in addition to the areas of the missing original Formica, sand it and paint it with an piston spray gun. I will tape off the side art before painting.
Any suggestions on an easier or more effective way to repair the rest of this cabinet? I was originally going to have an entire new cabinet built from scratch but finding this side art will be impossible. (And this side art is in really nice shape)
Check out the before and after pics below. Comments? Suggestions? The brown areas are spots where Noice pulled up the original Formica as he removed the non original Formica. He did a great job preserving the side art!
