Is there a guide/tips for removing the monitor. I know not to touch the suction cup/electric death thing, but, is it safe to unscrew and pull out?

To be safe, you should use a discharging tool when handling a monitor. It's relatively safe to unscrew and pull it out by the frame, but if you accidentally touch something that's charged, it will hurt.

Bob Roberts sells an easy kit to make the tool if you don't have the time or patience to construct your own: http://therealbobroberts.net/safeback1.html

Why are you removing it? If you plan on doing any work on it at all, I'd discharge the monitor first.

Well, like myself, he could be fixing up/repainting the cab which requires no work on the monitor. But I could be wrong.

Like mhanlen said, if you plan on doing a cap kit or something, definitely need to discharge it.

I have a completely painted over Donkey Kong cab. I want it to look like DK again. THe monitor was rotated to be horizontal, so I need to flip it again.

I pulled mine out with out discharging, and it was the first arcade hobby related thing I did so if you are mindful of what your are doing/touching, you can do it. I discharged it after I had it out to repair it.

Can you expand on this?

Then you should be fine as long as you use the frame to rotate it. If you want to be super safe, you can discharge the monitor.

Ok, not sure what this means. How would I use the frame to rotate it? I assumed it is attached to some mounting brackets now, and that I would need different mounting brackets to mount the monitor vertically. Is this incorrect, and if so, how do I accomplish what you are describing?

It's just a warning. Do not touch the chassis or anode when pulling the monitor out. Only use the frame to hold on to.

You are correct. You will need different brackets to mount.

Sorry, I meant it's safe to hold onto the frame in order to move the monitor around.

What you'll need to do is unscrew the monitor from the cabinet and rotate it to a vertical position.

For vertical positioning, the monitor is held in by two screws and a bracket at the bottom and 4 bolts (2 each side) on the top by a bracket. Again, this bracket is different from the horizontal positioning bracket.

This is kind of hard to explain in words, I can try to post pictures later if that would help.

Also, you can find a manual here: http://mikesarcade.com/arcade/manuals.html that will show you a graphic of how the monitor is installed. It's listed under "Donkey Kong (TKG4-UP)"

Umm, that would be the Anode Cup. You can pull your monitor out safely by staying away from it, but why not just discharge it? It's just too easy that theres no reason not to do it.
