Reminder: You can 'approve' new forum friends yourself.

I'm getting a lot of PMs asking 'Can you approve xxx. He is a good guy'.

The response I basically give to all is:

Go to the VAPS page, and click 'Member Upgrade' on the menu there.. you can 'approve' him yourself...

If you have a problem with the page for any reason, let me know and I can take care of it for you.

mclemore, what is the purpose of approval to gain forum access? Is it to limit multiple accounts? I'd think to deter scammers and riff raff, but RAM controls folks are still operating here. I think an unintended consequence may be discouraging new people to the hobby?

Really? There have been a good number of threads about this earlier this year. It doesn't seem to be discouraging new users, except new users that want to cause trouble. Getting a referral or donating $2 hasn't been a gating item for anyone.

The only complaint received about it was from the Michigan gameroom guy (already a banned user) who, while not leaving us entirely alone, has kept his abuse off the forums and limited it to email and the Contact Us form (which also seems to have stopped, at least for the time being). And it brought and end to the Chinese spammers... and does anyone remember Mame Troll? You might not, but the mods and admins including myself do. Mods/admins were kept quite busy deleting his dozens of signups and posts while I was in the SQL database globally erasing his hundreds of spam PMs he was sending out to members here.
