ok, been working on a MS Pacman that was converted to pacman that I got in a deal a while back, the cabinet needs repairing, the monitor has severe burn-in and was missing the G07 chassis.
well I had a chassis that I cap kitted and but into the cabinet and after reseating all the socketed chips a few times and replacing one chip that controlled the sound I had a pacman running. Got the daughter board and chips off ebay and it is now back to a MS pacman and running good.......except the monitor looks like crap.
I just purchased a bunch of cabinets and parts this past week and in the pile was a very lite burn in G07. I had another chassis that I tried on the tube in the MS pacman but its brightness was low so I use the other.
Well when I installed this one into this monitor I heard the HV static and then the sizzle and then the magic smoke, looked to come from the flyback.
Now to the real question, Do you think the chassis was borderline since it had low brightness on the other tube and just happened to die on this one...or could the tube have caused it to go up in smoke.
I was thinking of trashing the severly burnt tube and replacing it with this one, but that means I have to take the last good g07 chassis and install it on this monitor.
is it worth the risk.....I have yet to have a tube smoke a chassis.
Thoughts anyone.....
