Hi,
I have a general question with regards to lowering the volume of a game when the volume control pot is already down as much as it can go.

Would it be possible to just place a resistor in line with the speaker?

If so, what would be a recommended ohm rating?

Thanks
Jeff

Are you sure the pot is working?

You shouldn't just add a resistor. I usually add an LPad on all my cabs.

Yes, it does.
In fact, I capped the board and replaced the pot with a new one as it needed it.
What is an LPad?

Are you sure the pot you used was the correct one for this purpose?

If you tell us what game it is, maybe I can check the schematic and give you a precise answer.

For example, if the game is Tailgunner then change R74 to 2.2k.

Hey.......
Thanks but I had my fill of the VB/Cinne games for a bit! Need to take a break and regain my composure!

Actually the game is Crazy Climber in a Deluxe Cab and the game played great but loud, I could turn it down but not low enough to play when everyone is asleep.

Anyway, I received the MOST EXCELLENT HSS Kit and when I was installing that, I figured that I would cap the PCB as it looked like it needed it and while I was doing that, I figured why not install the remote volume control so I could play at normal volume during the day and then turn it down at night.

Well, it plays great with the HHS Kit but the volume is still kinda loud at the lowest setting and I would like to bring it down a few notches.......

There is no "problem", just want to get the volume lower......

BTW, I removed a 2K pot and replaced it with a 2K pot. I tested the pot and it read 2K and it was also stamped with 2K......

Thanks
Jeff

Also, I tried reading the schematics but the copy I have is crap and I cannot locate one that I could actually use......
Probably the best course of action is to attack this at the Amp level..........

Between the two schematics on KLOV, you can see everything that's going on: http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/C/crazy_climber.pdf and http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/C/CrazyClimber.pdf .

Assuming the pot is working fine, it's hard to believe it doesn't get quiet enough though. Turned all the way to one side, the input to the amplifier should be completely grounded. There's no gain adjustment built into the amplifier, but it looks like there's just a sum of two outputs (6R and 8P), so if you bump up both R28 and R29 from 10K to 22K or so, it should drop the amplitude before the amplifier.

Thanks for the links!
I was able to read them and I have to thank you for that suggestion.
Traced the "sound" circuit and see where the outputs of 6R and 8P are summed before the Amp.
I will pull and replace R28 and R29 with 22K ohm and see how that goes.
BTW, if I turn the volume down, it gets lower and lower and just before it is where I want it, it just cuts off, cannot get the sweet spot as is.....
Thank you for the help and I will post my results once completed.

Mine is exactly the same. Very touchy and difficult to get the sound right. It is a bit sticky and therefore difficult to adjust. If you use a little CRC or WD40 the rheostat should be a little smoother and easier to adjust. Try this before you go the hack.

OK, tried the 22K ohm swap and it was just not enough so I went with 47K ohm and it is perfect........

I can now tune down the volume and enjoy a game without worrying about waking up the family.
