New from Stern Pinball Inc. is a modular ticket-issuing system that attaches to the side of a Stern flipper game. It incorporates a Deltronics dispensing mechanism, and can accommodate as many as 4,000 tickets.

Available from authorized Stern Pinball distributors, the new kit (Part No. 502-6109-00) will mount to such Stern favorites as Tron, Transformers and AC/DC, as well as future flipper games from the company. The kit is easy to remove, too, so a game can be converted back to route-ready condition by use of a plug set (included), which also helps to retain the piece's resale value.

According to the manufacturer, "redemption pinball" appeals to family members of all ages, encouraging everyone to play and win together. In suitable locations, the addition of the prize redemption feature increases flipper game earnings dramatically, Stern reported.

kids love redemption games. period. hell, you could argue that that's the main thing keeping arcades alive today.

my son loves pinball...but he has commented many, many times that it would be cool if pinball machines gave you tickets. well, here it is. i have no doubt that some of the blue hairs of the hobby will turn their nose up at this, but i say "good on you, STERN." anything to get new players involved is A-OK in my book.

They already had something like this?

I played a POTC at a CEC recently where I kicked the crap out of the high score table. It kicked out 5 oversized tickets, each one was good for 150 tickets! That's more than my kids won all day (2 and 7 year old..) and it was for a 20 minute POTC game. It was either in the coin door itself or came out on the left side of the cabinet. It wasn't a separate unit.

Pretty good ratio considering it only cost me 25 cents for that game!

This may be something new directly from Stern, but its been around for a while. I also won tickets from a POTC at Chucky Cheese.

Williams had the ability to spit tickets all the way back in 1989 with the first WPC machines.

Almost nobody bothered to mount the printers in the 23 years since then.

yeah....redemption games were obviously around when i was stomping through arcades back in the day, but back then it was the new arcade game/new pinball game that was bringing in the dollars and catching the eye of the kids.

now you've got better graphics and more games sitting on your home TV/gaming console....redemption games are the only "wow factor" (or one of the only ones) left for the younger kids. it's one of the only things they can't replicate on their couch.

i hope STERN has success with it....i tend to think they will (assuming the operators put them in play).

Yeah sure.. I don't care if the hole is plugged or not, once it has holes it's less valuable imo than a routed game that doesn't have holes drilled.

They need to figure out a way to put this in the coin door or something instead of putting holes in the cab art...

Either way It's been around for a long time, but hardly ever used. Me I wish everyone would get out of pinball for a year or two so the prices would bottom out and I could grab some a-list machines cheap! Then everyone can get back in after I have what I want..
