Redbox is going to start renting out video games for $2. I know they are using the Austin area as one of the test centers and im sure there are plenty more accross the nation. Just thought id let yall know just incase you hadnt heard it yet.

I had heard about this. Pretty cool that they're rolling it out in Texas. Hope they start using some scratch resistant coatings on the disks. I've pretty much stopped renting from Redbox due to the disks usually being scratched to the point they're unreadable.

I've actually started going to Blockbuster more. It's a little more expensive but at least I feel like the money I spend there directly impacts local residents.

Here, Blockbuster also has vending machines like Redbox. We also have a blockbuster store.

I'm sure the vending machine isn't helping business.

I might try Redbox for movies...

I live in a metro area of 100k and we don't have any rental joints.

I've seen a few blockbuster venders outside of Speedway gas stations in the NW Ohio area - crazy if you ask me. lol

It will be good if they add a bunch of titles but if you look at their website it looks like they only have about 10 or so games for each console. Im sure once it catches on they will get more tho.

I have rented from Redbox yet. The one time I was interested in a movie they listed, it was not available.

I use NetFlix anyway. Hard to beat them between the DVD/Blu-Ray discs and the streaming movies. And I get fast service. Mail a disc Monday and have another movie Wednesday.

I wonder if the game rentals will be like the movie rentals because who would want a game for 1 day?

Yeh but they dont do games and gamefly just seems a little pricey. If gamefly had the same pricing as NetFlix Id be all over it.

Don't do it man!!! Just type ( I hate gamefly) into google and you will see why. The only benefit to using the service is that it saves you allot of money, but only if you play allot like I do. On average before I joined gamefly back in 08 I used to spend $60 for a game that I would complete within 1-2 weeks time and have to sit on it be the game stores only give you $25 trade in for new titles. My GF service is $15.99 a month and on average I get 2 sometimes 3 games a month from them. If I were to buy those three games outright it would be $60 or more. I haven't purchased a brand new game since GTA 4 released and that was in 08 I think. The only other game purchase I made after that was for Forza 3 and thats because the game has excellent replay value and takes forever to finish. As far as their service goes the reviews will explain it all. My personal complaints are that you almost never get a new release unless it's been in your que for months before release and the shipping is slow. They send you e mail saying that they recieved your game but wait until the next day, sometimes longer to ship the next one and if they do ship you something its not even one of the games in your top five or ten. Customer service is nearly non existent with phone hours being from 11am to 1pm,WTF? Who works three hours? And don't even attempt to send them an email,it just goes into a blackhole that responds with a generic auto response. Like I said, its only good for saving money if you go through games fairly quickly.

True that NF doesn't do games but $2.00 per day is no bargain either (IMHO). GameFly has a 2 out for $22.95/mo or 1 out for $15.95/mo. Keep the RB game a week and GF is a better deal. :)

At least you can try a game. I haven't rented a game since the mid 90's. But the worst shit is when you rent a game for 3 days and get bored after the first night.

You could just wait until they hit the clearance bin at target.

All the libraries around here rent video games and blu ray/hd-dvd movies. :) They usually have enough stock to keep them in as well. Your tax dollars are paying for it anyway you might as well use it!

I will have to see if ours has any games. I have seen the movies and music, but didn't really look for anything. My wife is a bookaholic and is always picking up a stack from one of the libraries.

Gamefly isn't great but for me it's the best thing around right now (I really wish netflix would introduce game rentals)

Once I get a game I normally sit on it for a while, I had Red Dead Redemption for probably 2-3 weeks, then sent it back to get Skate 3 at the same time I mailed in a Netflix movie (I believe on a Friday). I got the next Netflix movie on Monday, logged in to Gamefly to see that hadn't even received Red Dead Redemption yet, much less mailed my next selection. I mailed the game and movie at the exact same time from the exact same box, why is it taking gamefly so long to show they're receiving it in their system (I live in Dallas, their shipping center is in Austin). They didn't mail out Skate 3 until Thursday, and I think I had it the following Monday (a full week after Netflix had sent me my movie selection!)

Of course when I rented Red Dead Redemption it was also an almost week long wait.

So yeah, they suck donkey balls. Redbox games is interesting but if I typically sit on a game for 2-3 weeks and they charge $2 a day that's gonna add up pretty quickly
