I feel like there's been a lot of red tent pickups just in the past couple of months and there's definitely been a noticeable growing interest in it. We all know that John (Blkdog) is the keeper of Vs. info and I find myself repeatedly forwarding new Vs. owners to his website page for info on PPUs, dipswitch settings, etc. So he is definitely been a great resource to many.

However, there has been suggestions about possibly starting a registry for red tent owners but it seems it's never really put into action for whatever reason. Like I said in another thread, it's not really that necessary, but it would be fun to see who actually owns one, what they have in their library, serial #, pictures, etc. So something similar to the 720 registry or MBWB registry.

If no one has any objections, I'd be more than happy to create one and design a simple web page for it. If you guys feel it's a waste of time, I won't bother. Just putting myself out there. If you are interested, please PM me and let me know and, based on the response, I'll see if it's worth doing. If it is, then I'll take the steps in requesting the appropriate information that will be included in your registry entry.

I was thinking this would be the info I would gather:

First Name, Last Initial (and/or username for those who are paranoid): Jess Y. (eseyo1)
Location (City, State): Livermore, CA
Serial #: 06825
Date (Month, Year) acquired and from where (if known): Feb 2010 from Marysville, WA
Games in Vs. library (1-2 games per PCB and/or loose complete chip sets): Vs. SMB/Excitebike, Vs. The Goonies, Vs. Balloon Fight, Vs. Wrecking Crew
Games wanted: None
Picture(s): I'd place this under all the info above.

Anything I may be missing?

Thanks guys!

I guess I could contribute here.
First Name- Nick D.
Location- Kennewick, Wa. (Bought in Spokane area)
Serial #'s- 07375, 00922, and 00768

A couple of observations. First is the 2 early models have Japanese writing on the cp.
Second there is an access panel to the power supply and iso area.

Cool! I didn't know there were early models (unless that is possibly a Japanese import). Maybe you can fill us in on how you got them and why some early models were different.

So far including myself, I have complete info for:

Notrecaine
xrayrox
Smell0
eseyo1

Partial info for:

Sniper colle
Incrediblegamez

Confirmed to register soon:

dwj90
CyberDan
gottifour

Known owners who I hope will want to register :D :

phetishboy
blkdog7
rony2211
lilman573
davez (I think. Unless you sold what you had)
supernesman
86redtent
patchboston

Let me know if I'm forgetting you! I hope to get as many guys to submit info. Then, I'll try to design a decent web site to house all of it.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm hoping one day I'll be part of the "Red Tent registry" :) I'd say do it. I'd like to see an % of how many are in possession of klover's

Very cool, Jess! I'll get you my info.

I just saw a friend's new red tent and the CP had Japanese text. Never seen that before.

Thanks guys!

I own 2 and would be glad to share info about them. How about coin counters. I have one machine with super low plays on it. LMK

Ooh. Coin counter numbers would be cool.

I can request that info later I suppose. Right now, just getting some initial info and building the beta site as we speak.

Also, if any of you could help me research the history behind the red tent with japanese writing, that would be helpful. I'm guessing they are just early models or Japanese imports. Maybe I'll ask ataritoobin who seems to be my answer to all my Japanese pop culture related questions. :)

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for info Gottifour!

For those of you who still need to send me info, you can either PM me or please send it to nintendoredtent at gmail dot com as I will be keeping all the info and images filed away there.

Also, it will make the registry look much more consistent if you can provide an image of your red tent. More than one image is fine and pictures of your serial plate is a plus. I'll figure a way I can make a gallery for each owner. For now, I'll just be putting a general shot of your actual machine.

red tents...

It's interesting how Red Tents have become the hot item lately.. I'm not a nintendo fan, but just a few years ago you couldn't give these things away.. At one point a friend and I had so many of these (bulk buys) we ended up tossing or using them as planters in front of his shop :) No one wanted them... Glad to see that they are finally being appreciated.

As with many things, I think it's a trend. But if the result is more red tent owners and the preservation of red tents, I'm all for it!

I think it takes time for people to get used to the quirkiness of the red tent. It's definitely unique and versatile. Also, it's mainly for fans of Nintendo and Nintendo games as it doesn't really play anything else unless you JAMMAtize it (God forbid) so the fan base is sort of limited in that aspect.

To comment of what you said, you tossed some in the trash and/or used them as planters??? Oh the horror! And you're in MA? Man, I'm sure Blkdog would have taken all of them off your hands and lined them up in his basement if he had been collecting at the time.

In Ma...

Yeah, this was about 12+ years ago.. John (Blkdog) wasn't even living in MA at that point.. I've never been a fan of destroying games, but like I said.. I couldn't even give them away.. Most Nintendo games weren't very popular, except Dks.. Until lately, I've passed on most Nintendo games as I could never get rid of them.. Hey, keep the trend hot.. so all the classics I like will go down in price :)
