I don't know if any of you have seen this, but I found it interesting:

It actually says (c) Atari 1981 on it, so it looks legit. Pics copied below, for archiving.

Anyone know the story behind it?

He is also selling Scramble and Super Cobra buttons and they look similar in "style"... I almost wonder if they were custom made for an arcade BITD?

Neat nonetheless. :beerchug:

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't see those.

You're totally right though, they do look the same. So maybe Atari didn't make them. (Or maybe some design house made them for multiple companies, or just slapped the copyrights on them, for legal reasons, or make them look like they were 'official'.)

Nonetheless, they do look like they were made for some purpose or event, i.e., with a specific motivation in mind. It's the story I'm most curious about.

Also, the listing ended. Which one of you got it? ;)

They might have been made in the early 1980s, but definitely not something that came from Atari or Stern. Whoever made them probably wasn't licensed to do so, and made more than just those 3 games.

These come up often. They are usually sold with og display.

Any idea on what these have cost in the past? $250 for the set seems way high to me. I threw what I thought was a crazy offer of $125 and he came back at $225.

I don't really have room for new games so I like picking up "junk" like this when it appeals to me.

BTW, I received the Red Baron pin today... it made me smile thus my wanting the set now. :D

Why I love this hobby. The little finds.

Fully agreed.

And it doesn't matter how long you've been doing it, either. I've been in it for 25 years, and there are always still new dimensions to discover, from ephemera like this, to obscure games I've never heard of or played before, to delving into the technical aspects of some game or board you want to repair. It really is a deep hobby.

I would wait for more to pop up. Ive seen many sets go for 40-50$ range. Of course some are less full, etc.
