Ok, I am sure I am opening a can of worms, but I am looking for suggestions to "fill the box." I am installing a jukebox in a bar that I am opening, and want to have a good selection. Pretty much anything goes. Funky country to current rock. Lets hear your favorites!

If you don't mind me saying, it's not about what we, or you like.

The danger is making a subjective choice. What I, you, or anyone else on here likes, isn't important, it what your customers would like.

Will it be on "freeplay" or will they have to spend money?

If it's the latter, it then depends on what the choices would be of the majority of your clientelle who would be willing to spend money feeding it.
What sort of age group are they? Young people have access to music and might not be willing to put any money into it. If that's what you want.

I'd suggest to start with the "classics" jukeboxes are all about nostalgia. So a mixture of Motown, 50/60s pop, country & western, 70/80s pop and a few standards.

"Double A sides" of whatever genre are always a good choice.

Give it a go and regularly check the popularity meter to see what genre attracts the most plays. Then discard the dud ones.

Digressing..

Jukeboxes can be a great attraction for customers.

We occasionally visit an "upmarket" family owned furniture store, the owner has four jukeboxes on "freeplay" for husbands "to play with" whilst their wives choose furniture carpets or curtains, even in a place like this they get a lot of use.
Here's two of them. I'm quite envious.

Those are some nice boxes. Well, the age group is mid 20's to early 50's. The bar is kinda funky and retro, so I thought a juke would be in order. I will charge for it, but it will not be the primary source of music (streaming pandora with a tie in to the juke somehow) The crowd will be diverse so the music will need to be also. This is an interesting crowd base as I think they are after the not as popular music. I am also seeking suggestions for my home juke as well.

I took those photos in January when we went in to the store order a "stressless" chair for my wife. (Being married to me I guess it's a necessity).
A guy came last Wednesday to checkout a problem I had with the amplifier of one of my jukes. In conversation it came out that he'd reconditioned them and sold them to the owner. He's Len Beddows of Jukes of Stafford.

Back on topic.

There's a thread on here about "what's in your juke."

Mine's all nostalgia from fifties to eighties. I've just cut and pasted both my carousel listings.

Some of these might appeal to your customers.

Donnie Iris & The Cruisers - Ah! Leah!
The Spinners - Working My Way Back To You
Earth, Wind & Fire - Let's Groove / Let's Groove Instrumental (the instrumental is better than the one with vocals)

These are 3 fun songs that get a lot of play in my gameroom. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know some of the songs by name.

Side note: I played these 3 at a bar a few weeks ago and saw a lot of folks diggin' the tune selections. One guy even complimented me on playing Ah! Leah!.

Are there any local bars that have Karaoke night? Go in and see what songs get sung (no matter how badly) week after week, that get a positive reaction from the crowd.

Bars can be strange places, the local dive had a bizarre group of songs that got a lot of play... obscure songs, but also the typical barroom songs. Songs that I seem to hear a lot in bars are: David Allen Coe- You Never Even Call Me By My Name, and Billy Idol- Mony Mony. Maybe Toby Keith "I Love this Bar" Sammy Hagar- Mas Tequilla, Garth Brooks- Longneck Bottle or Friends In Low Places
AC/DC is always a good bet. Might want to put Don't Stop Believin- Journey for the Soprano's feel...
You could go with the Jukebox theme, songs like Jukebox Argument, Don't Rock the Jukebox, Jukebox Hero, I Love Rock And Roll, etc...

The hardest part is getting a good mix of the common stuff and the eclectic stuff that people like, and doesn't send customers running for the door...
