Recommended humidity level for games room

You will love that model Jeff!

I just placed my order for the Fridgedaire, it's rated very high in customer satification and the price cannot be beat. I was checking Lowes and Home Depot and found garbage. I then searched on line and the Fridge is hands down the best for the money.
Thanks for the link!
BTW, it's only $10.00 for next day shipping (says 3 but the estimate is 1). I should have it Monday or Tuesday.
Peace
Jeff

I realized a month or so ago that our old dehumidifier wasn't even pulling moisture out of the air. After looking around the local stores I figured I'd order the one mentioned here since there was no tax and free shipping for what should be a better unit.

It's been running a few days now and has brought the humidity down to 43% so far, when it was at 61 or 62 at times on a humid day. The unit is constructed much better than our old one, and anything else I looked at in the stores.

In short, get this if you need a dehumidifier. Don't even waste time going to Lowes, Home Depot, or Wal-Mart.

What I had to do was run a condensate line to a sump pit I had because the de-humidifier works so well, I had to empty the bucket twice a day!
The old one I was emptying once every 2 days or so.
That goes to show how much electricty I had wasted before it finally fully stopped working.
My next purchase is going to be a circulating fan to keep the room evenly conditioned and the purchase of a couple humidity gauges placed around the room to keep an eye on the level so I don't have a reoccurrance of a slowly failing unit.
Peace

Just for reference...

Consumer Reports just did a test of dehumidifiers in their July 2010 issue. That Frigidair did well, but didn't have frost control and it's efficiency wasn't as high as some they tested. Their best buy was a Danby unit (DDR6009REE) which was a lot cheaper than the others. Anyone ever actually try one of these? I looked around and I'm not sure that price in the real world is actually any cheaper.

I've got a Kenmore that they recommended previously, but I'm kind of waffling on it, because it has frosted up once (in spite of the 'frost control' feature) and presently the display has died on it. It's got a nice remote display, though, that is still working well.

I think I need to get a second unit myself - that Kenmore isn't going to make it very long if I keep running it 24/7 like this.

I bought a humidity and temperature display from Wal-Mart for $8.

It shows the current humidity and temp, as well as the high and low of each.

I always run my dehumidifier to the drain. There's no way I'm going to go down every day to make sure the unit is still running, and doesn't need emptied.

If you're running AC in your house just add some Supply ducts in your basement and cut in some extra Return grills and use your houses AC to dehumidify your basement. After all your house's AC is a dehumidifier. If it doesn't get it to the level you want, it can only help so your dehumidifier isn't running non stop(and icing up the coil)

My AC has 2 vents in the basement, I left them open while I was dehumidifier-less, it could get it down to 53-54%.

Good tip though, for people who may not already have the vents, or have them closed.

wow, humidity. I barely remember what that is. I just looked it up, and here in Reno the relative humidity is 25% today.

Lucky you.I can't remember the humidity being that low here.....ever. Good thing I don't have a basement, because if I did my games would either be in mold peril or I'd have a super high electric bill.
