Recognizer NEON Lamp & LED Sign Interest List

No one else interested? We've got the beginning of a good list going, and the more people, the less they'll cost as shown in the first post:)
It'd be really cool to see these made. If anyone thinks I'm stepping on toes because Brian already does his Tron toppers, it's not my intention to and I'm certainly not trying to reinvent the wheel. Pr0k does gorgeous, quality work and for a great price:) I just thought it would be rad to offer a couple screen inspired illuminated pieces. A bit more spendy, I know, but consider what you're getting and how cool it would look hanging.

I am really tempted to join in on the neon, as I would like some geniune neon in my arcade. Do you know if the neon will be on some sort of plexi board or will it be open so you can see the wall behind it?

Can we get a few more sign ups by this weekend to help make these cheaper for all?

I think it's feasible for us to reach AT LEAST the TEN mark for each sign here before long. I know it may be a deal breaker for a couple folks if we can't reach the 25 piece price point, and it is a $55 difference on the LED signs between us ordering 1-9 pieces vs. 25+ but keep in mind that shipping is included and I don't know if I'll be doing another run of these.

There were a couple folks that I thought FOR SURE would have been in on this that I haven't heard from at all, but oh well. It seems like the numbers are pretty good, at least for the 18x20 NEON signs. If we could only get a few more signed up for each sign, I'd say we could probably proceed with the ordering process:) I posted this thread on one of the Google "rec.games.video.arcade" groups as well to help generate interests in case there are some folks out there that don't make it on these boards as much.

I do have a few things that I am trying to verify right now with the shop:
* Is there a per piece option, per individual piece request, for having the black acrylic backing on the NEON signs or not.
* Verification of turn-around time (based on quantity of course)
* Verification of whether clear glass will for sure be used on the NEON signs (given that neon naturally glows reddish-orange anyway)
* Verification of the LED bulb size and whether they casings will be diffused for the 'animated' LED signs.

Hopefully we can get the number of sign-ups I'm shooting for by this weekend! Thanks all. Can't wait to see these produced!

They will do a 60"x60" neon, but they won't do animated at that size. It'll be a bit to ship but they can definitely do a static (non-moving) one, but you're probably the only one that will shell out for that size, as I'm having a hard enough time getting ten folks to sign up for an 18"x20" NEON or a 27"x30 and 30"x36" LED sign. The prices are great, but will still be quite a bit since it'll be a one-off of a 60"x60" neon. Should I go ahead and get a price for you? Let me know if you're interested still and I can get a price. Anyone else up for the existing sign up list? I'd really like to get these other signs ordered withing the next few days. Come on folks....open your hearts. Open your wallets. The MCP commands it;)
Let him hope for awhile....then let him die playing.

Friendly evening bump before turning in. We're so close to filling up ten sign-up slots on the 18x20 neon. I can consider proceeding with just what we have (for the neon) if no one else signs up by the beginning of next week just to get things movin', but we're pretty close to getting them for $35 cheaper. I don't want to really put in an order for less than five on the LED signs though if I don't have to, only because I want to make these somewhat cost effective for folks, as there are a couple folks who will drop off the list as it is if the LED signups don't reach 25, which I realistically don't see happening anytime soon. Believe me, if I had a spare $5000 on hand, I would buy a shit ton of signs to get them dirt cheap and just keep them in stock for folks to buy at their convenience;) The best I can do right now is try and facilitate this run and work on negotiating a fair price for this bulk, or semi-bulk, order here.

Thanks to everyone who's signed up on the interest list so far!

Final Pre-Production Updates...Shall we proceed?

I do have a few things that I am trying to verify right now with the shop:
* Is there a per piece option, per individual piece request, for having the black acrylic backing on the NEON signs or not.
* Verification of turn-around time (based on quantity of course)
* Verification of whether clear glass will for sure be used on the NEON signs (given that neon naturally glows reddish-orange anyway)

OK, I just talked with the production lead and I have the following answers below to the above questions:

* There are TWO backing options. We can do them all black acrylic backing, or we have the metal grid backing. There are 2 metal rods going vertical and 2 going horizontal. You usually see this backing with beer or bar signs. Which ever backing you choose will be on all the signs, since its a quantity order they all have to be identical.

* OK, I verified that the turn-around time will in fact be approx. 6-7 weeks max. since the shop is getting really booked up since I made my initial inquiry a few weeks ago. They say if it's a deal breaker, we may be able to get them done sooner, but upon thinking about it, I really don't want to have to put that kind of pressure on them and risk quality if we don't have to. This is just one more reason why I want to get the orders placed as soon as possible ;) Is this cool with everyone? These are a lot of signs after all, and we're kinda taking awhile to filling up the list and submitting the order.

* CLEAR glass
will[/i] used, as neon is naturally reddish/orange anyway. The glass itself will not be colored.

* The LED's used for the animated signs will be either 5mm, or 8mm in size and will have diffused casings, which allows more distributed light giving the sign a more "neon" glow. It is recommended that because of the large size of the signs, that we use 8mm LED's.[/i]

This all being clarified, I think it's probably a good time to put a cap on the sign-up sheet since workflow in the shop is a factor and I know I would personally, as well as many of you who have signed up I'm sure, like to see these in the ol' arcade as soon as possible:)
Does a cut-off of this Wednesday work for most of you? At that point, I'll halt the sign-up sheet and start contacting you individually to discuss payment if that's cool.

Basically, I just need to know at this point (in addition to some last minute sign-ups) if:

1.) The majority of you who are ordering an 18x20 NEON want a BLACK ACRYLIC backing on the NEON signs, or do you prefer the METAL FRAME backing? Remember, the whole order has to be one or the other, so you must be flexible if the majority chosen isn't your preferred option.

2.) If in fact you really are in. If the number for the Neon signs, drop below the TEN mark do to drop-out sign-ups, we may not get the "TEN Piece" price for the neon's. Keep in mind that I did negotiate an additional $5 discount off the initial price I posted.

3.) This applies ONLY to those that are ordering animated LED signs: If we don't reach the "FIVE Piece" mark, I will try to negotiate the FIVE Piece discount anyway, since I'm sure the shop doesn't wants to keep the business. Would those of you that were only in contingent upon us getting a "TEN Piece" or "TWENTY-FIVE Piece" break, still be OK ordering if we were to only get the "FIVE Piece" break? As with the above NEON's, keep in mind that I did in fact already negotiate a $5 discount to my initial posted prices.

Keep in mind anyone who has been sitting on the fence, This is a ONE-TIME run and I won't be doing another run of these, as I'm hoping to just keep these on the DL somewhat within the arcade and Tron enthusiast communities and avoid any potential "copyright" issues with Disney the closer the new movie is to being released.......
