Recently Rebuilt WG K4900 (Ms. Pac-Man) -- Blurry Region

I *just* got my monitor rebuilt as part of some other work and everything looks great -- but the text in one region of the freeplay screen is slightly out of focus, while the rest is crisp. I have a warranty on the monitor for a year, but I can do minor work myself and save a trip to the outer regions of the bay area if it's an easy fix. The focus knob brings everything into focus but this region, which is just slightly blurry. Anything I can do about it?

The picture attached stinks, but the out of focus area is definitely noticeable to non-obsessive people who have played the game.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Oops, wrong image! Here's the blurry region. In a blurry photo. Ha. It's the copyright Midway area, and the details of the (c) are nearly illegible.

Is it blurry in that area when the game is playing?

If you have a weak red gun and the red is cranked up too far, you'll get smearing, just in red areas. That could be what's going on. If it's only blurry on that text, and not the maze, then that's your most likely cause. Back the red drive off a bit and see what it looks like.

THANK YOU for the excellent advice. Turning down the red pot cleared up the text, so that's definitely the source of the blur. Of course, I was used to the super vibrant, cranked up colors so I have to find a red balance that doesn't make the game look less vibrant :/

Maybe I just gotta stomach the red blur! Sucks because I did just drop some bills on getting that thing in good shape, since I'm still a bit wary with monitor work. A minor quibble, but still.

You might just need to have the tube zapped a bit on a rejuvinator. Usually, you can bring back a slightly weak gun. Did the repairman do anything to the tube itself, or just the chassis?

You have two red pots - one for drive and one for bias. You should be able to find a balance between the two that gives a nice bright red without blurring. Also, adjusting brightness or contrast can affect the blurring and how vivid it looks. You may find that turning all three colors down a little (or some down and some up), then adjusting the brightness or contrast up will give you the nice bright balance without blurring the image.

And, of course, a rejuv could be pretty helpful, too...
