Recapped my Matsushita and now its worse than before! !!!

Did a full cap kit, new B+ filter cap and new flyback....

Picture is very dim and blurry on the sides... I readjusted B+ and focus... its just not getting there...

Prior to my rebuild the pic was bright enough but the colors were weak...

I know this is THE turd as far as monitors go.... anything I should try? Oh yeah...the caps are all in correctly according to the kit and values that were removed.

Did you make sure the red suction cable from the flyback is securely attached to the tube? I've had that happen to me before where it wasn't securely in the hole and it was a blurry pic.

Funny you should say that... I went back and checked that this morning after I posted this it is secure

Why was the flyback replaced? Was it the correct one?

Does it have a focus voltage wire going from the flyback to the picture tube socket on the neckboard?

You know what Ken... I replaced it for no good reason... I checked the number on it and it matched the one I got from Bob...

The old flyback worked fine... classic example of if it ain't broke don't fix it right ? I just figured while I had it out and everything was getting a treatment I'd go ahead and do the flyback.

Its probably weak.

The white wire connects to the focus assembly that is mounted on top of the flyback cage... I assume the other end of the focus assembly goes to the neckboard.

You may need to readjust the pots on the input board and neckboard.

Double check to be sure the focus wire has good soldering inside the tube socket on the neckboard.

Yep...your right... it was late last night so I didn't frig with it too much. Its the first time I've ever done a cap kit / rebuild and had the monitor look worse than when I started.

The last time I know of someone replacing a Matsushita flyback "just because" led to this:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=36113

We went through a lot of tech stuff in there that you may want to check, but I would try the old flyback if it was working...

Yeah I'll probably end up doing that... Good thing is there has been no obvious trauma to the chassis... the focus pot is fine (not cooking) and works perfectly. B+ adjusted fine... I've not adjusted anything on the neck board yet (screen, r/b drives, r/g/b-low light controls)... so it could very well be that... it was late and I was kind of in a hurry.

BTW... that's one hell of a thread!

I thought about replacing the flyback on the Matsushita in my Pole Position. The other Matsu monitor I had smoked the flyback the first time I powered it up. This one has held out so far...*knock on wood*
