when I got my asteroids it had a pretty loud hum.

fortunately my secret santa could predict the future and had sent me a rebuilt board.
when I put the rebuilt board in, the hum is gone. sweet

so I order a rebuild kit from bob and install it. (on the original board) I happen to notice that
C12 is put in upside down. I am thinking ok maybe that's why it hums.
anyway, I finish installing the parts and it still hums. dammit

the only part I didn't install was the 10ohm resistor, and I didn't install it because I couldnt' determine where it went. none of the resistors are burnt though.

what do you think?

Either one of the two TDA2002's can cause a hum. These do not come in Bob's rebuild kit.

I am not finding it so far on either radio shack or frys website.

I would like to get them in person rather than wait 3 days or more.

any idea where to pick these up?

You won't find anything like this at RatShack.
Not sure you will find them at Fry's either.

The TDA2002V is long extinct. There are a few out there...but don't bother. Use TDA2003V's instead.

Hum can also be due to bad ceramic caps on power. And can be due to a bad or questionable power/ground connection. Connectors on the board ok and no cracked solder?

bob still carries the 2002 I think.

I have covered the board pretty well as far as cold solder joints ( I believe)

I just want to fix this one and offer it to someone or keep it as a back up. It is a nice board, no burnt spots or anything.
