I'm rebuilding a Game Plan MPU-1. It has the worst battery damage I've ever seen.

Despite the damage, I'm confident I can put it right again.

I soaked it in vinegar to neutralize the battery damage. Then I sandblasted it. Yes, it needed it.

So far the recovery has gone well. I've socketed everything (since I had to remove everything anyway, I socketed it all) and rebuilt the traces that got blown off.

The edge connector is a problem. My idea is to do something like Bob Roberts recommends for rebuilding an edge connector, except I'm having difficulty finding the connector itself to solder to it. I could probably go a bit longer, but not very much. Any idea where I could find one, preferably on Mouser?

Could you re-terminate the cable with a different connector, and then fly-wire it to the MPU Board? I know it would not be stock, and may be considered a Hack, but it would work.

From what it sounds like your rebuild sounds worse than the one that I did.

There was one more trace that was open, and once that was repaired, the game worked great.

Good Luck, and post some pictures.

I *really* need to update that web page...

There was a switch matrix trace that ran under the Z-80 that was open. Fixed that and it worked fine.

Totally sweet. I can't wait to get to the part where I can actually plug it in.

For the time being, I'm not worried about the edge connector, as it only drives the display.

I am worried about my choice in cap replacement though. I'll post photos of what I picked up to replace the green caps.

Those should work fine. I just happened to have some better ones on hand that I used.
