Hey, I've got what looks to be an extremely old Ms Pacman machine that my girl friend's dad bought broken at a Salvation Army a long time ago. He fixed it up, but them it sat in a storage shed for quite some time. She and I recently just got it out, and it still works for the most part, but there are a few problems. One, we don't want to keep it plugged in while its not in use and after you plug it back in the high scores don't save. Also there is no "continue" function on the game, so when your five lives are up you have to start over. The joystick is a little worn out feeling, but that really doesn't bother anyone, as we've all just gotten used to it over the past few days. The fruit also jump from side to side on the screen and occasionally pass through the walls of the maze in the lower half of the screen, in the top half they behave normally.
I don't know if the high score memory and continue functions just maybe weren't available when this one was made, but I don't even know how old it it. So maybe someone out there can identify it for us. Its all black and the panel above the screen is red with just the words "MS PACMAN" on it in yellow text. The control panel is yellow with two yellow buttons on the far left one above the other for "1P" and "2P" (one and two players obviously). then there's a black joystick with two small arrows points left and right on either side of it (they're skinny lines that look like this: ->> and <<-) (there are no up and down arrows) then to the right of that is the most curious thing about the machine it has three red buttons that read "lf. door" "ctr door" and "rt door" and I really have no clue what these are for, there are no doors in Ms Pacman that I know of, and pressing them doesn't do anything at all during game play.
Any help with the technical problems or in figuring out how old this machine is would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like a converted Bank Panic - at least the control panel came from one anyway. Most probably a bootleg pcb as well. Up until now there was no Hi Score save feature on original or bootleg Pac/Ms. Pacs. No continue mode either. So that is normal operation on your game. The fruit funkiness could be a problem though.

The fruit problem could be they are running alt maze on mspac which will cause that.
Sounds like a crappy conversion to me, post some pics.
