I've got a Area 51 /Max Force board that passes all tests either selected or auto-run with board test switch on & powered.
The During start up the Insert Coin and credit test is completely pixelized -colored dots that flash on. Adding credits does make the credit dots change their pattern. Selecting R or L start will REAM out. Allowing the attract to run will REAM out. Hard Drive swapped no difference, HDD cable swapped no difference. +5 run down to 4.75 at duo board and up to 5.575 @ .25v increments - again no difference. Also very picky on start up - will watchdog timeout alot.
Proms pulled and cleaned, square chip on duo board pulled and cleaned. Board cleaned and blow dry. Installed Police Trainer board in and no issues - plays fine. I must admit I'm a bit out of options and really could use some ideas before it goes back to HAPP for repair
Jump in please!!
Jack

Also find that the high scores are pixelized too

Just found out that the security chip is missing

After alot of research I found that this duo combo board requires a security chip. Its missing. Just ordered one from ToplessZ. Fingers are crossed!

Thanks for the confirmation

Thanks for chiming in and giving me a bit of confidence on this problem. Bought the board off Ebay from gameboardsoc1234. This guy appears to just throw the boards on the bench and hook it up. If it boots its sold as working. He said he doesn't repair them. Looking at his auction pics the security chip socket is empty. What tends to burn my britches is that the security socket is clean - no dust in relation to the rest of the board- which makes me believe its was removed very recently I sent him an email last night calling him on it and have yet to hear back.
I'd spread the word on this guy

I have not had any problems with this guy and saved as a favorite seller. He is very straight forward and informs you to look a the pic to be certain that is what you want. He may have removed the security chip but it was done before the pic was taken. I could see it being an issue if the chip was in the pic and not when you get the board.

I also would wait about spreading the "word" about this guy until you give him a chance to respond to this issue. He may not even know that that chip is supposed to be there.

I bought one of my first boards from this guy and have had no problems at all. If you look at his feed back score I think you will find that for the amount of stuff he sells, he has a great score.

I concur. I've been buying stuff from Bill Burger going all the way back to early 2000. I mostly buy the stuff he lists as non-working since as you correctly speculated, he just puts it on a bench and does almost no troubleshooting. I've gotten more that one board from him that I was able to get running by just reaseating the chips.

Don't take that as an endorsement that anything you buy from him will be an easy fix, though.

He has been fair to me when I have come to him with an issue, although he does state in his auctions that what he sells is as-is.

Like kb0jjn, I have him saved as one of my favorite sellers.

Brian.
