real ghostbusters questions, and hard to track down issue

does anyone with a real ghostbusters have the 'green ghost' powerup in their game? i've had two different boardsets and both only give the proton powerup. i've tried all the different difficulty settings and whatnot and nothing's changed.

also, per mame, i should get a missile shooter from one button and proton stream from the other. when i play, i get a full proton stream at the beginning where it starts out about halfway powered in mame, and also, i get one fire out of the missile blaster per life, where it shoots out a mega blast that kills everything in sight. anyone have this?

wondering if it's a rom difference or what?

finally, here's the real thing that's confusing me. when using the proton stream, it makes a high pitched squealing noise. about half the time i get static from this sound. the first board i got (from quarter arcade) had this issue, so i returned it, and the second board does it as well. anthony at quarterarcade mentioned the board i sent back worked with no issues and sounds were all fine. so i'm thinking it may be somewhere else, like my harness.

at this point, i'm running the cheap jammaboards harness but i replaced the +5 with 4 18 ga. wires, the +12 with two, and the ground with six all together. anyone have any ideas on this?

edit - per the manual online, i did try running it with the +5 at 5.15 on the board (measured at a rom) like it suggests, no change.

yeah. i have the two player conversion kit version. i've tried the roms of both versions in mame and they both seem to have slimer. however, both boardsets i've had have functioned the same.

the main thing i'm trying to track down if anyone can suggest anything is this sound issue. the proton beam sound is pretty much the same to the sound the tempest shooter makes when you spin the spinner real fast. about 2/3 of the time it will sound normal. the rest of the time, most of the time it does it the sound will go from normal to static as it's making it, and sometimes it will be static right when you hit the beam button. in any event, it comes and goes, and doesn't matter if you're in a point in the stage where there's a lot of other sounds being played at the same time. both boards have also done this, but anthony at quarter arcade i got them from said the first one played perfectly normal at his place.

bump -

any ideas on the sound issue? having two different boards with the same problem, i'm thinking the problem is in the cab/wiring rather than on the pcb. my +12 is running at 13.1. i know that isn't really a big deal jamma wise, but does anyone think putting a 12v regulator on it would do anything?

There is one at a Supper Club near me surprisingly(along with a few other games Centipede and Crystal Castles to name a few). And if memory serves me the game looks like the Overhead of Blaster Master, and you can shoot a "gun" or use the proton stream.

if you watch this video here from about 49 seconds on, you'll here the proton sound. that's the sound i'm referring to.
