Ready Player One

I just saw it with my kids. I'd give it a B; it was worth seeing and enjoyable.

The book was much better though.

The wifey and I saw it last night and we both loved it. The theatre had groups of "nerds" and it made the movie that much more fun to watch. :)

Just saw it with my 10 and 7 year old. Wife went to, while she doesn't care for the 80's/games/pop culture......she enjoyed it as much as us. I was shocked. 10/10. I did get a little choked up at the end.

"Ready Pander One"

I just can't get into it... so much pandering... so much pushing things at me like "remember this? and this? and THISSSS?"

It was enjoyable in the sense that it kept me entertained, but I doubt I'll be watching it again. Every person I've talked to gives it a 5/10 rating... which is pretty sad.

I will say that I liked how they pulled off the Oasis. Looks really fun to be in and sort of makes me sad we don't have that yet IRL. It would be pretty amazing to have a job inside a virtual world and earn money to live in the real world. You can just go on quests for loot that actually has decent real world value.

Wasn't that kind of the entire point of the book in the first place? Being that you didn't come of age in the 80s, I get it. Maybe if they had had more brooding and grunge, it would have been better for you?

Get ready for Williams games to go up further in demand...robotron and joust especially. A taito space invaders was in there also.
I don't see that. Nether played much part in the story overall. Hallowell's space invaders shirt got more screen time. If they had actually put Joust in the movie instead of rewriting the entire first challenge (at least from what I remember), then maybe.

I thought that was funny as I was wearing my Space Invaders shirt.

I didn't get "The Shining" reference, although I thought it was cool.

And who else here has found the Easter Egg in Adventure. I remember how cool I (thought) I was after learning how to do it.

Hehehe...that's cool you had your shirt on.

The Shining thing wasn't in the book.

I did find that easter egg BITD and thought it was super kewl. I probably liked that part the best, in the movie.

The whole Shining scene had our theatre going crazy. :) Everybody thought it was great! The little dead twins are eval no matter what movie they are in. :D

Eh... if you're saying I didn't grow up around all the stuff shown in the movie... Well I was born in 83. I've probably watched 95% of the movies/shows referenced. Probably played 95% of the games referenced. I wasn't into 90s grunge at all. In fact, my sister 3 years older than me was into that.

I just don't need it rubbed in my face the whole time. Yeah the entire point of the book was to just jerk off fans of the 80s and geeks in general. I didn't appreciate it there either.

Honestly I liked the premise of there being a virtual world that the majority of the population basically lives in, and what sort of impact that has and the tech behind it and everything. That's what really pulled me in. Not all the references and iamverysmart dialogue.
