READ: Reputation Ratings, Trader Ratings, and new URL for forums?

1. A user message 'reputation' system was turned on today. Please see the WebMagic Announcements section for more information.

2. We are working to add a 'trader rating' system to the forums. Actually it is apparently about 99% working at the moment though visible to admins only. It is simply waiting for a decision on the next item below. Hopefully trader ratings will help prevent 'xxx is a thief' messages would almost always result in a 'I am not the thief...yyy is' and then a flame war.

3. We are thinking of making forums.klov.com redirect to forums.arcade-museum.com, instead of simply being an alias of it. Instead of navigating the forums on either domain, any forums.klov.com address would take you to the same address on forums.arcade-musuem.com (in other words, forums.klov.com bookmarks would still work). Please see the thread in 'WebMagic initiated topics' and put your two cents in if you wish...

i can see the trader rating on members with very low post counts, but not on people with hi post counts.

Is it possible to get the trader ratings to show in all forums and not just the FS and WTB sections? Also, why only allow someone to post a certain number of ratings per day. I think that should be unlimited. If the system is abused then remove it... but at this point I, and others, will probably be throwing up a lot of ratings for old trades/sales. I know that not everyone will use the rating systems but I think it will be helpful for those who are interested.

It is technically very easy to turn on/off the trader ratings in any individual forum section. I started by having it turned on everywhere on the board, then quickly limited it to the for sale/wanted sections. I don't mind asking everyone what they think on the matter, though lets let the trader system run for a few more days first.

The limit (per day) for ratings is set to the default. I know people may have a bunch of catching up to do but I wasn't really up to making it set to 'unlimited'. If any abuse occured, it would be labor intensive to clean up.

A question about the "Reputation" ratings. All I can see is if:

A) someone is an unknown quantity
b) someone is on a distinguished road
c) someone is somewhere in between (forgot the terminology)

Is there any way to be able to see how many reputation points someone has, and maybe the comments given when points are given?

I'd like to view someone's profile (if possible) and see their Reputation just as easily as their Trader feedback. I currently have 10 Reputation points (which I can only see if I click on my own "Add to Reputation" button), but I can't tell that about anyone else, nor do I know why or who I am getting points from.

Also, the "must give to 24 different people before giving to a person a second time" is ridiculous. We have many members who are most knowledgeable and spend more time giving help than asking help. Ken Layton is very knowledgeable about monitors, and if he helps the same guy three times in three weeks, but can only get one Reputation point for it because the guy hasn't been helped by 23 other people yet...

Click on your 'User CP' and scroll down to see which threads people are giving you points for, and what their comments are, if any. That will give you the why... just not the who. The who bit seems to be anonymous.

The thing that's puzzling about the karma system is if you can only give positive karma, then eventually everyone will be in the green... right?

I was thinking about that, too. Unfortunately, we have a bunch of kids around here who'd definitely abuse the "bad reputation" aspect if it was available.

Perhaps an advisory board would be needed to review Reputation comments (both positive or negative) so they can weed out the ones that are motive-driven....

You can see the last 5 comments left for you if you go to your User CP.

Could be, but you can get more "blocks" as you get more and more reputation. So the higher rep you have, the more green blocks you get.

Something tells me that would be a full time job...
