I have a Reactor that I am trying to get JROK's High Score save patch to work. I have burned the roms and the content has been verified. When the roms are installed, I get a blank screen and it will not boot. Pop in the original roms, works perfect... Is anybody running this or some across this problem? Perhaps James will chime in :)

They should just drop in as replacements to ROM4 and ROM0. Are you reading the ROM images as raw binary images before burning ?

The eproms were programmed using "absolute binary" on a data I/O. Just in case, we will burn another set and re-verify them.

Best,

Bill

Thanks Bill, I wasnt sure how to answer since you burned them on the trusty I/O :)

Thought I'd post here rather than contact JROK directly as this might be of interest to a larger crowd.

Last week I was helping a friend id some roms with winromident. The first couple of ROMS were identified then the next two were not. As a double check I grabbed a reactor board that I was repairing and removed one of the roms to use as a test to verify that winromident was still functional. The rom could not be identified by winromident. I grabbed another reactor board and tried the same rom - same checksum but no id in winromident. Strange. I then loaded the mame reactor rom BIN file and compared it to both reactor roms from the pcbs and they both did not match. Tried another pair of reactor roms from the two boards (rom 1 this time) and they did not match as well when compared to the mame BIN file.

So the question is if the high score save roms were a patch of the mame romset. That being the case, the fix may very well be burning a set of reactor MAME roms and re-trying the reactor high score save patched ROMs.

Before I go through that step - thought I'd ask if anyone has covered this ground before. I'm pm'ing JROK for his view on this post as well.

Best,

Bill

I ended up with a little extra time and programmed up a set of reactor roms using the MAME romset and the board plays with the modded roms. My hunch was correct. I tried to find a set of instructions as to what else needs to be done or modded on the reactor boards and need that info as I had no luck with google and JROK's site only provides the zip'd rom binaries.

Thanks,

Bill
