I bought this Defender power supply rebuild kit and am finally able to re-pin the power plugs on the harness. I'm running into a snag though. I was supplied trifurcon pins and housings which are rated for 18-20 gauge (and 22-26 gauge, but that doesn't apply here). I thought I would be good to go because trifurcon are what everyone recommends. The problem is that the wires on my harness are 16 gauge, and when I crimp them with the trifurcon pins, the crimp is too fat to fit in the housing.

Am I doing it wrong? Do I need other types of pins?

You talking about the wiring going from the transformer to the power supply?

For those I strip and tin the end of the wire and crimp the pin so both crimp sections are on wire. Tinning the end and letting it wick up the wire will help to strengthen the end since you're not able to get the wire insulation in the crimp.
