Re: Picked up an Ikari Warriors

Honestly, I wish I had snagged this FREE game up before Jehuie. I would have definitely appreciated it. For future reference, don't lie to people saying you're "trying to make room" when you're really trying to make a huge profit.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/for/1241504046.html

I emailed him asking for a possible trade of goods and he said "No, I'm trying to make room. What do have? Maybe you can sell it and then buy the cab." I responded saying I recognized him from KLOV and that he got the cab for free. He writes back saying he was "trying to make a few bucks."

Question to you KLOVers, is it cool to snag up a free game and sell it for $250 obo right off the bat? If so, then I'll shut up about it. Just kind of pissed because it was a nice working cab and I would have really enjoyed it. Am I wrong to be upset? Is it a "you snooze, you lose numb nuts" situation or a "man, he's a disgrace to the hobby"?

Thoughts? Opinions?

of course that stuff drives me crazy when its a game i want but what can i say about this that would matter really.

reminds me of this mario widebody i wanted in my hometown and a new out of towner snagged it out from under me. haha

Haha. Hey, at least I am restoring it and will appreciate it. I picked it up for $75, but I've put over $200 in parts and supplies already (Monitor, buttons, wiring, paint, wood, etc.) There were some KLOVers nice enough to hook me up with some wiring and a joystick. I still need to get a CPO and sideart. I didn't buy it for $75 and tried to sell it for $500 right off the bat. I like your humor Taylor. Haha.

I've let it go. I was just stating my frustration and wanted opinions on it. I think I was more upset that the guy lied to me about why he was selling the cab.

Thanks for your opinion man. I appreciate it.

I figured. This is the first time it's happened to me. Like I told Taylor, I've let it go. It's just a game anyways. I told him I really didn't care. I just don't like when people lie to me especially if they are trying to make money off me. Not cool. Thanks Jow.

Edited: Fixed my grammar. Man, Friday night and I'm losing it.

I am confused...

Did you buy the Ikari Warriors even though someone got the cab for free?

I know it sucks... but it's always a possibility that someone will grab a cab only to flip it. I have never personally done that before. I am into this hobby because I love the games, not to make money. I have yet to sell or even trade a cabinet. I buy stuff I want - I have kept everything I have bought. But, I really can't blame someone if they want to make a profit off of an arcade game. And, really, I am guessing most arcade purchasers are not on KLOV. So, it just sucks cause you knew the truth. It's not the seller's fault. He was at the right place at the right time. Nothing wrong with profiting from that.

I think that in that case, its wrong. We have some jokers in the ATL craigslist that like to pull that type of thing... nothing like seeing a $50 Space Invaders turn into a $500 Space Invaders within 2 hours... I feel like if you are going to grab a game just to sell it, you should at least hold on to it for a month or so...

I have never done anything like this, but there is nothing wrong with this. Sorry. It's the American way.

Maybe if it doesn't sell for a week, he will sell it to a fellow klover for a discount?

I gotta say, he is the king of scoring free working cabs. I think he got a roadblasters a few months back. good job jehuie. :O)

No, I didn't buy it. I inquired about picking it up, but the person giving it away had already given it to Jehuie.

It's just my opinion that if you're in this hobby, you're in it for the games. He asked me, if it were me, would I sell it next to nothing. I said I would sell it for what I thought was fair for the labor and parts. To him, an hour drive, 4 hours of labor and parts (2 joysticks) = $200. I said, honestly, if it were me, I would have kept the game.

Like I said, if this happens all the time, then that's cool. No big deal. If this is the American way, then I was bested.

does it have the right joysticks?
the pics on craigslist look wrong.

No, he installed what look like standard joysticks that you can turn. Supposedly it works just fine. If anyone is interested, he said he would sell to it for $200. Well, he said $250 was a starting point and he expects to sell it for around $200. It's a nice looking cab.

After speaking with Jehuie, he explained that his intention was always to sell the cab for profit for personal reasons.

I was just upset because I felt he was misleading in his initial responses to my emails about selling/trading the cab.

Anyways, anyone considering buying the game? Are those original rotating joysticks hard to come by? They are like octagonal or something right?

It sucks, but he got it. Does not matter if it was free or if he paid $500. I don't see the problem with him getting it to flip it. People who read this forum are not the only ones after games.

Now, if you had the game lined up and he offered like $100 and the seller let him have it, then I would have a problem with that.

If you ask me, his asking price is very fair. Think of it as a opportunity to get a dedicated ikari for cheap. Just think if someone else got it, it might be doing life as a 48 in 1..

yellow rotary sticks are not that easy to find these days. One just sold for $33. Someone has a nos pair listed for $150.
