RCTE preliminary play field cleaning, whats the best solvent?

I am taking my first play field apart today and am confused about what to use for the first cleaning.

I went up a bought some simple green, except its not green anymore they added lemon scent and turned it yellow. err

How would simple green do with this old play field.

I am just a little scared...

Get some Novus 2. Do a google search for Novus 2 and playfield cleaning.

Perfect Novis 2, now would I use N2 with all the dirt, grease and general nastiness on the play field first? My thinking on the N2 if I used it first. I would be grinding all that dirt & stuff into the all the paint work.

Novus #2
is made to remove fine scratches, haziness, and abrasions from plastic and other surfaces and restore their original appearance. This can be used on Diamond Plate and Mylar playfields before waxing.

*Note - We hesitate recommending Novus 2 as a playfield cleaner for Pre-1989 playfields. It's a polish first and foremost*

Well that let out Novus 2 for what im doing...

What about that Wildcat playfield cleaner/wax? That is recommended for older Williams pins.

Despite that statement, the overwhelming majority of pin fanatics who post on rec.games.pinball would probably suggest Novus 2. Do a google groups search at rec.games.pinball. Probably a weeks worth of reading will turn up. I wouldn't spray any cleaner on a playfield..
