I am trying to make a decision on a pair of sit down drivers. Please rate (best first, worst last) these games:

Sega Super GT
Rave Racer
Ridge Racer V-Arcade Battle
Daytona USA
Outrun 2 SP
Cruisin World USA
Initial D

Feel free to add similar games I missed, and might consider. I am trying to stay under or near $1000 for a pair of working sit downs. If it's a rare or super expensive game, I'm probably not interested.

Thanks!

You forgot Outrun 2 SP

as my vote

SSGT ( of course since I own one)
Outrun2 SP
Daytona
cruisin world USA

The other two you have listed, I have never played much on it. hard to compare it. I'm sure Radiac would add others to the list. like Initial D

My account does not have permission to post in the Polls Section.

???

I'm pretty sure OutRun 2 and Initial D are going to be out of my budget.

I'm in the same boat as you... well, kinda. I want to find a good "modern" sit-down racer. Only one, don't need a pair as I really don't have room for a pair. Was looking at the Cruis'n USA/World games or the San Francisco Rush games but any advice on game quality for any others which I may not have played would be good to hear.

I have two Hydro Thunders and two Smashing Drives. The Smashing Drives are great for kids and have cool graphics, you could probably get them close to your range. Hydro Thunder is just a great game cannot say enough positive about it but not sure of you can get two in your price range. I also like Cruisin World. I don't know if Daytona would stay interesting enough over time.

Good Luck!

I had a singe Daytona sit down...it was OK, and probably 3000 x better when linked.

I have found a Sega Super GT, Ridge Racer V, and a Rave Racer, all in my price range. OutRun2 looks like it would be GREAT...but expensive. This game needs to go to my arcade, which is down a flight of stairs via the garage. The largest games I currently have down there are Op Wolf and Race Drivin' upright.

lol

I've been called out!

Ranked:

Outrun 2/ 2SP
Daytona/Super GT
Ridge Racer V
Cruis'n World/USA
Initial D
Rave Racer

Here's the deal. I am obviously biased toward Sega racers. I feel they are the premiere games in the genre. However, that is not to say that I don't appreciate the Namco games. One game I own which is not on your list is Wangan Midnight. It runs on the same hardware as RRV and is a really great game. It was the original "battle racer" (Initial D followed two years later) and it offers great linked play.

As for Initial D, I ranked it so low simply because I haven't played it that much, and I just really don't care for it. Others may disagree.

At the top of the list is Outrun 2. Either version is stellar. It is, by far, the best late model racer. Period. It is also very pricey.

At the second tier, is Daytona/SGT. I put these at a tie simply because they are both great. It is simply a matter of taste between the two. Unless, of course, you run across a Super Gt Plus, at which point I would say it's better that Daytona. Also, you should include Daytona 2 Power Edition on your list. It would rank in the top three, possibly above Daytona and SGT.

RRV and the Cruis'ns are great games, but you really need to have an appreciation for the over the top physics and gameplay to really consider buying either one. I, personally love Cruis'n USA, but I have plenty of other options to play, too. I don't know if it is a strong enough game to stand as the sole racer in a gameroom. again, it all comes down to your taste.

Rave Racer I can't comment too much on as I've only played it a few times.

Hope that helps...

How about Mario Kart??? If I ever got a modern racer, it would be that one!

Ok, on to my next question....

Is there any way to get these down a straight flight of stairs and through a std single door? Most of the Namco's do not split, only the seats come off. Are these too big/wide to get into my basement?

i would definetely pick up the ridge racer V. Its a really fun game. Weve had one on route for forever and i always play it every time I get a chance. Shouldnt be too pricey either.

That depends on your level of commitment. If you are cool with a large amount of disassembly, any of these will fit.

The Sega games, without serious teardown, will not fit through a standard door. KLOVer Wade Lanham is experienced in this as he put a D2 in his basement after tearing it down. I think he has pics of the process in his album, as well.

I doubt you'll get 2 of them for < $1k.. but
Rush 2049 is the best driver I've played in a long time...
<disclaimer>Its also only 1 of about 5 that I've played
</disclaimer>

I know a lot of people like the cruisin' series, but not me.. they don't have
a realistic enough physics model.

cheers

I'm not sure what the prices are these days, but Rush 2049 is the best driving game out there, IMO.

So this will be like when Goober and Barney took the car apart and reassembled it in Andy's Sheriff's office?

#1 Outrun 2 - This game simply rules, it's pure adrenaline the whole time. This is a great game to play single player as well which adds a bunch to replay value.
#2 Daytona USA - Classic, everyone knows this game rules especially linked
#3 Super GT - Really good game but Daytona still tops it for me

The others you listed are good but don't really get me going like these three do.

EDIT: Mario Kart Arcade trumps anything...if you could ever acquire it for a reasonable price or any price.

I kinda like Daytona...but I think the graphics are kind of dated compared to the newer games. Also, the price on them is still really high. I guess that could be telling me something...
