I'm working on Asteroids cabinet I recently got that doesn't work. Figured I'd do some cosmetic work in between working on the boards only to open the marquee and find that my speaker has been completely eaten. I guess I'm gonna have to replace it but I'm not entirely sure what type of speaker it is. I know it's a 8ohm 8 inch speaker but that's kinda it. Anything specific I should keep an eye out for when buying one or certain type needed? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

The basic low watt 8" are harder to find these days for cheap. Plenty of nice used ones out there. Even an over sized magnet power hungry one meant for auto will sound good.
My asteroids came from the seller with something like that until I swapped it for the right one. Vibrated really heavily and I thought the right one would change that. No change, turned out the grill was loose .

It is an 8-inch, 8 ohm. Here's my standard post on the subject:

In the past, when I needed a new 8" speaker for an Asteroids upright or Lunar Lander cabinet, I'd buy a Pioneer B20FU20-51FW. Sadly, that speaker isn't made anymore.

Parts Express does still sell an equivalent to that Pioneer speaker:

A few changes are needed in order to mount one of these speakers. This speaker will have to mount on the top side of the wooden baffle (completely inside the cabinet); the original speaker inserted through the baffle from below. To secure it in place, you'll want to drill four holes in the baffle and use long screws with flat washers and nuts. (The original was commonly just held in place with some staples.) Lastly, to provide clearance for the speaker basket, you'll need to remove some material from back of the piece of wood that holds the marquee light.

My only issue is I'd like to replace it without having to modify that marquee like panel if possible. Most speakers I see similar to the ones you guys have recommended all seem to have much larger magnets than the original

Match the speaker impedance with the factory spec. If an 8ohm speaker is original, dropping down to a 4ohm speaker will tax the amplifier more and make it run hotter.

Any cheap Amazon speaker that's the right size and impedance will work and sound right. They put whatever was cheapest in there from the factory. No such thing as a "car" speaker, speaker is a speaker. The other linked from Mnrocketry looks good too it's cheaper but you have to pay for shipping so it's probably the same price as Amazon and Amazon will get it to you sooner.

Agree, a speaker is a speaker in this application.

Sounds of Asteroids:
Thump, Thump
Pew, Pew
Thrust
Large Saucer
Small Saucer
Extra Life
Slam
Explosion

Nothing high fidelity there.

Awesome thanks! I think I'll go the Amazon route like what ArcadeTechGW recommend recommended it's cheap and it arrives quickly. Audio has never been my forte so I appreciate the help and clearing some things up!

For anyone interested the shape and size is the same as the original, it fits perfectly without any modifications to the marquee light mount, as some speaker suggestions would've required. The audio sounds great as it normally would! Thanks for the help guys!
