I recently found an Omega Race cabinet in disrepair, with some of the artwork missing, no monitor, no PCB, and no other internals. The seller was letting it go really cheap, so I picked it up. After speaking with the seller for a bit, I learned that he had troubles finding a buyer for it, and decided to part it out, and all the removable artwork pieces were up on ebay, so I purchased those too. All together it was $200 CAD including delivery 3 hours away, which I'm happy about.

The Good:
The side artwork has some cracking, but overall it's quite nice
The marquee under the control panel is in great shape
The speaker grill has a little warping, but overall is nice
The coin door has some rust spots, but overall is good
The metal portion of the control panel is original (more on this in the bad section)
It has the key for the back door :p

The Bad:
The top marquee is missing
The inside starfield artwork is missing
The mirror is missing
There is no CRT, no PCB, no transformer or PSU. It's just an empty cabinet with a few wires inside
The bottom kick plate artwork is completely trashed
The glass artwork has been tampered with a lot. They scraped off all the bits that obscure the CRT, and it has really bad flaking and missing bits
The yellow front panel has been kicked or something, as the dowels have let go, and it's torn through the sides of the wood in a couple spots
The cabinet is separating, and there is a 1/2 gap down the side of the yellow front panel and the control panel
The control panel has been converted to R-Type, and the art and all original buttons are missing
The cabinet is very wobbly, and there is lots of chipping and dings on all the edges
The back door is rough and made of really cheap materials

The Plan:
I want to build a MAME cabinet (heresy, I know.. but hear me out!).

Omega Race was the first game I ever played on the VIC-20, and it's easily my favourite game for the system to this day. It holds a special place in my heart, and I do not want to harm this cabinet in any way. I still have a complete VIC-20 setup with a CIB Omega Race on display in my game room to this day.

I want everything to be completely reversible, as I won't rule out a full restoration in the future if I come across a nice vector monitor or PCB for it.

My plan is to fix up the cabinet itself so it's strong and sturdy again, replace the artwork on the kick plate with a new reproduction, and get it up and running with a nice CRT and computer inside. I will save the original metal control panel and get my own made up from scratch.
