Rask's Omega Race Build

It's in super rough shape. I have to completely take the cabinet
apart to replace the front panel and bottom panel.

Looks like the front panel was kicked in at some point, and all the toggles are breaking through the front panel

Once I took off the feet, I would see that the bottom panel corners are caved in

These toggle pins are in there good, I have to break apart the panels to get them out. Luckily they all came out pretty well, and once I have the panels rebuilt, I can reuse this hardware.

Next up is to remake the panels.

Front panel is painted with a nice school-bus colour. I took a chunk of that into the hardware store to get it colour matched.

Laying out the lines for the coin door, and the tongue and groove lines that hold the coin bucket.

Coin bin fits really nice in the router grooves

Installing the hardware again

And new paint.. the colour matching isn't perfect, but it looks much closer in person than in the photo.

Time to tackle the bottom panel. The feet and wheels are pretty rough. I looked into buying new ones, but I figured I could fix these up instead. I would like to keep as much of this build original as I can.. as they say, it's only original once.

Let's look at the wheels..

I can take apart these and use a bolt to mount the wheels in my drill, so I can sand out all the nasty grooves. I don't need to make them perfect, but I would like to get them to a point where they won't mark up my floor. I'll also sand down all the rust on the metal bits and give them a new coat of paint.

Everything mounted up in the new bottom panel.

I had to tear the cabinet down entirely to make sure I repair the thing correctly, and also so I can glue up the sides in all places as I put it back together. Turns out that they used these stupid metal clips to put some of the cross-braces in there, and they like to rip out a ton of old wood as you pull them out. Pain in the ass… will have to patch that up and re-route the grooves.

First I remove the clips, then scrape all the high spots off so it's level. Then I use clean it up and use some wood hardener to make sure the wood is tough and stable.. then fill it with some wood filler.
