While on a road trip today, the wife and I stopped at a small truck stop to get gas. I went in to pay and over in the corner was 2 EM pins and a popeye video game. The pins were Spin Wheel and Fashion show. Unbelievable to see an EM pin still on location.

A "barcade" near where I live has an old Bally "Charlie's Angels" on location. It's beat all to hell to back, you can actually see sparks when the slings fire, lol. Might as well be an EM. Plays like one, only thing not EM about it is the electronic bloops and scoring.

Found a pinbot in a gas station in Georgia on my way to Florida a few month back. Fed it a couple of quarters and moved on.

i heard on spooky pinball podcast a couple monthes ago that some route ops are buying old ss and em pins and puting them on route in truck stops.good to see classics get a second chance. i played a grand lizard at a koa in eureka last summer. it was in near perfect condition.

I don't think the average public cares if a pin is old or new, they will just play a few games and move on. Ops would have less invested in using older pins on route, plus the older ones are easier to maintain.

I would drop a few quarters in a game if it's on route....especially an old EM.

Aren't the simple ideas the best?

Seems like operators there aren't ponying up the $7k to Stern....

Operators are buying off craigslist, fixing them and put on route. They can't profit off Sterns 7K a pin. Back in the day when an operator would buy a pin it was like $1500 and they can turn a profit fairly quick. just spoke with an operator in Chandler, Az. He said theres no way to profit off Stern NIB at those prices.
