Rarest game, good & bad

Good and rare:

Slither
Cosmic Chasm
I, Robot
QB3

Sucks and rare:

Logger
Spy Hunter II
Tattoo Assassins

This is a solid list, but does QB3 actually exist?? I've never seen one ever.

And I'll add Sprint8 and Indy800 to the list. I think they must have all been broken down long ago...

And Team Hat Trick which MIGHT be super fun if we could even try it on MAME... :(

It exists, but essentially only as a location-test prototype (although it was far enough along that a flyer was created for it). https://allincolorforaquarter.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-story-of-rock-ola-video-games-part-2.html for more info.

is spy hunter II valuable?

No. It's a perfect example of 'rare' and 'valuable' being two different things. Play it and you'll understand exactly why.

Data East Disco No. 1.

I came across it on a 412 in 1 board and wondered what the story was.

I asked about it here a year or so ago and someone eventually chimed in with pictures so apparently they do exist, but the DECO games are extremely temperamental.

I (personally) have only seen one dedicated Sega Pitfall II. I wouldn't mind one someday if I ever came across one...played the crap out of it on Atari as a kid.

That's a good read, thanks for the link. From what I know and have heard, there are currently 2 QB-3 boardsets that exist currently. They are both non working, as the guys who went to work on them could not get them up. Given their expertise, I'm not sure if they'll ever be running. Past those 2 boardsets, I've never heard of anything else existing for the game.

I vote for Slither too. It's a great game you never see. I almost abandoned a restore on the one I picked up though, but came to my senses. In terms of value, I just sold an extra boardset I had for it and used that to buy a very nice Tapper.

I'm really curious on how many Food Fight Cocktail's are left. My serial number is 46 out of 100. I counted six several years ago from members of KLOV. It's my favorite game I own.

Some pics of the Cinematronics Flipper Ball I have. Sucks that the game database is at a stand still, there ain't shit on this game anywhere.

I agree it sucks. I'd volunteer to help if I could figure out how.

Here's what little I've been able to collect.

I've been prepping an update to Discrete Logistics (http://discrete.mameworld.info ) for some time so getting accurate info on games from this era is important to me.

With emulation possible now (see DICE, or MAME's support for Pong/Pong Doubles/Breakout) emulation is coming at some point.

[EDIT] BTW, been trying to figure out precise dates for these games. As you can see by Undumped wiki, there's a bunch of clones. Any dates on the PCB, manual, schematics, even datecodes on the ICs, could be useful - if you're willing to help. :)

More pics. Complete with doorbell chime and speaker (neat stuff). I also have full schematics and the 29 page manual for the thing.

Scan would be appreciated, if you're offering. ;)

Hmmm...

EXPENSIVE X RARE X Not Fun to Play = Original Major Havoc

yup.. Ill throw discs of tron in the same category.

awesome looking but the game play?? makes regular tron look like a masterpiece.

You guys are forgetting mostly all cabarets (except pacman and a few others) :p

Wouldn't every prototype game automatically be rare ? Also many of them are bad which is generally why many of them didn't get released. Marble Man is a good example of this: a game where you roll a marble with a joystick and a fast button ... UGH !!

Ive never seen one either. All I know is the info at www.ionpool.net, under the cinematronics section. Screenshots, schematics and whatnot. There are pictures of the game boards somewhere on that sight also, so it at least exists, but I cant seem to locate them right now. Was just checking them out a few days ago. I want to see some pix of a real cabinet for goshs sake =). On a related note, there are parts for vectorbeam Scramble that have been found, and have been pieced together into a working game from what I gather. Would like to see that also.

How old is this picture wow a Freedom Fighter. Are Freedom Fighters still out here?

I saw those games a few months back. Insane collection. Super nice guys. There are a few freedom fighters out there. It is probably the rarest laser game there is, maybe besides cube quest.

I'm going to go against the mostly common grain here and say Mystic Marathon: good. I used to play it in mame a lot and even had a stargate conversion for a while, and I just really enjoyed playing it. The graphics are glitchy, and flicker a lot. Thats the only thing that seems odd to me. I like the gameplay. It flows nicely, doesnt really play much like any other game, and is just... fun. It seems easy to keep playing the game for a long period of time though, so it can get a bit repetitious. But what can I say I like it.

Interesting... I was talking into another collector here who had this QB-3 on his bounty list.

Apparently there is also a marquee floating around out there as well. He said it showed up on Ebay years back.

I was lucky enough to buy a PC engine with Parasol Stars on it, but it wasen´t the HU card version, instead it was a PCB with roms on it... Maybe it was tested this way, like you suggested.... if not, where else would the roms have come from? (maybe some serious hacking has been done, in order to get the roms??)

To draw fire away from Barrier owners... Finding the location test version of the arcade release of Parasol Stars (aka 'Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III') would be a legitimate grail find in my eyes.

The known information at this time suggests that the game may have just been a PC Engine console running the game put into an arcade cabinet by Taito for location testing, but this remains unconfirmed as nothing related to the cabinet in question has turned up. Magazine articles and interviews are at odds with each other, and it's not totally clear what actually happened with the game though it does seem to have ended up at least on test at some point.
