I'm actually going to start documenting this restore which I don't often do on klov. One because it's a rare bird and two I'm going to need advice along the way so hopefully this helps someone down the road.
I picked up this rare Tekhan Pleiades cabinet thanks to this cab ID thread I started. I assumed it was converted because I've always known pleiades to come in the standard centuri cabinet. But apparently it came in dedicated cab in Japan with amazing artwork!
Well it's apparent what company made it but can't find the game. Star Force never came in a dedicated cab.

Got it from a pinball collector in allentown PA. Good dude who has an awesome pin collection with a few vids. The game stopped working and he needed room.
Gameboard is not booting. Monitor appears to be working but hard to say if it's dialed in without a working gameboard. It doesn't use a standard video connector so I'd have to manually wire my tpg to it.
There are a few things missing and a few things that that need be corrected aside from just getting the board to boot.
From the cab id thread it looks like the coin door was originally green. The joystick was not a wico 2 way but an obscure 2 way with a black ball top and a thicker shaft. There was a plexiglass front piece with chrome brackets that are missing. The marquee light appears to be missing and was replaced with a standard lght bulb. The big bummer is the marquee is missing.Other then that it appears to be complete with original tehkan gameboard, power supply, and monitor. The monitor is a never before seen by me or APR nec 19 inch.
The condition of the sides are decent. Unfortunately the monitor bezel artwork is faded because it's just paper glued ontop of plexi. The inside artwork seems decent but dirty so I will have to carefully clean that up.
First pulled the control panel and disassembled it. Going to need a vinegar bath. The chrome plating has unfortunately worn off due to hand wear. The instructions are not there. I question if the instructions were just on a card that was taped to it? There is not one trace left. You can see where the original holes were for the original joystick.
Then pulled the coin door next which is banged, bent and painted black. The bottom of the top door was bent out and the top of the bottom door was also bent out so they overlap. I'm going to try to bend it back and hammer out the dents on an anvil. I might try to strip the black paint to see how bad the green paint is under it but will likely need to repaint the whole thing. The only nice thing is that the coin mechs are the same ones used in Nintendo cabs so I should be able to freshen that up nicely since parts are plentiful. The first coin mech hole has a dummy plate on it. It's on with rivets. Unclear if that is factory or not. Might just pop in another coin mech just to make it look nicer.
Pulled the monitor which has this huge mounting cage. Like it said it's a obscure NEC that I will never find a manual for. I asked a Peter at APR and he's never seen it either. It's cool to see odd ball monitors but it makes me nervous since there is not parts or documentation.
Removed some hacks. Someone removed the original marquee light and replaced it with a ligh bulb fixture. If anyone knows what the light fixture looked like please let me know.
I don't know why they didn't just screw it on but they instead cut a slot in the wood and just wedged the mounting bracket into the slot so now I have to patch that up. I also noticed a series of round wholes on the left and right sides. I think light is supposed to shine down so you can see the inside artwork.
Finally the board. I'm going to have to go through the basics, check voltages and reseat some socketed chips. There is one chip that looks like it has some rusty legs. Hopefully it's a simple fix.
Oh yeah...there was a doorbell installed on the game for free credits. Took that fun little part off quick!
Looks like I got some work ahead of me but I don't think it will be that bad.
I have a lead on the original joystick and found another klover who scanned his original marquee. More updates whenever I make progress.
