Rare DECO Cassette System dedicated cabinet YouTube Video! - TNT Amusements

This may intrigue many of you...this cabinet was rarely seen...a real dedicted DECO system --smaller than the tall units that were out there, and was converted in 1986 or so to "The Deep" --clodhopper who converted it left everything inside it, including the Burgertime cassette! Incredible laziness!!! BUT---a popular KLOV collector who is buying this game from me is striking it rich, as we did NOT know about it until it was opened tonight by me for the first time in 20 years!!

Rare? I have import ur, USA ur, cocktail, and a conversion in a tempest cabinet. It's only rare since they don't work and were coverted. What's rare is the widel multi kit he made for them. I shoul have bought 2 of them.

Still, thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks for posting Todd, in my mind the tapes were the bigger cassettes. Nice to see how it all works and that it's going to be saved.

The tapes are slightly larger than normal mini cassettes. They were a pain tp dump. Al was the one who really worked to save them back in the day. I was given a test tape and dongle to one. It came from chuck e cheese(gave it to al).

The tapes are actually the same kind used in some old HP scientific calculators, I forget what model, and they're not easy to find. They're about the same width as micro-cassettes but slightley thicker, and I think the actual tape inside is the same used in regular micros, or at least I hope so as one of these days I'd like to try to rewind some damaged ones with fresh tape and re-record them.

Being mechanical the decks themselves are a major weak point as the belts and idler tires tend to break down into a tar-like goo over the years, it's rare to see them still functioning without having been rebuilt somehow, and while the belts are easy to get I have yet to find a source for matching tires.

I've toyed around with various methods of substituting something solid-state for the cassettes and while I'm sure it's possible I haven't had the time yet to fully explore it, it's not as easy as it looks, also there are security dongles specific to each game that are needed for it to work. I'll have to post some pics of the hardware, it's interesting stuff.

BTW, The Deep isn't a bad game, it's sort of like an updated, side scrolling version of Depthcharge.

Last year he sent out emails to people who had inquired about another run of kits over the last few years. I responded back that YES I WILL BUY ONE FOR SURE!!! About a month later he sent an email saying he had enough interest to do another run and I was happy as hell. No emails since and no response to my inquiries. :( I still hold onto hope that my cabinet will run a DECO game once again...

If Dave does another run or sell the kit to someone else to develop, I would want a 2nd to save one of these cabs. Who knows maybe done would want the cocktail if the multi was available!

I sold my Mult-Deco kit last year.
Aside from the obscurity of the games, there's nothing spectacular about any of them. Peter Peppers Ice Cream Factory was moderately cool, otherwise the Deco games were all turds.

Peter pepper along with burgertime, mission x, bump'n jump, boulder dash, lock n'chase are all good games. I would also say super astrofighter, astro fantasia, terranean, and cluster buster are worth playing.

I remembered Boulder Dash as a Max A Flex game, only because I had an Atari 800 back then. Didn't even realize there was another version of it, which must have been completely different since it wasn't on Atari computer hardware.

I love seeing info on these oddball systems!

I must have quite the collection because I have both of these 'rare' dedicated DECO cabinets. The cocktail was basically empty, no monitor or PCBs but they did leave the cassette player with Burgertime tape and dongle. The upright had a DECO game called Lucky Poker in it. I ended up giving away the cocktail and the guy I gave it to made a nice conversion out of it. I'm saving the upright for my Widel Multi-DECO kit.
