RANT :: every one wants artwork vectorisation but what about quality ?

We all knew that, as in other fields, theres quality products versus crap products

after gettin some HiRes scans of the PacMan cocktail CPOs, I decide to check the (publicly) available vectorisation of thoose pieces. Holly crap....

see http://vector-zorg.blogspot.com/2009/06/pac-man-cocktail-cpos-vectos-vs-vectos.html

I know it's french, but images are self explanatory.

what a pity ;-(

Don't make me wrong, at least the guy who did the CPO did something (I don't have any idea of the material he worked from)

the only problem, is that it's NOT suitable for repro, that's the point I want to focus on.

maybee I'm too picky with quality of tracing and respect to the original

Those look like the ones on the twobits site, but with the Midway copyright instead of the Namco.

I used to love seeing what tbombaci would vector. Used to do a lot of good stuff. IIRC, the last thing I saw him do was the Zoo Keeper Marquee.

FrankA here on KLOV has my only prototype on his Zoo Keeper. Ahh, the good 'ole days where time was free.

:)

the blog post IS NOT directed towar tom, tom did (does ? do you still tracing tom ?) really great tracing. We exchanged some thing back in the time on BYOAC.

Don't get mw wrong, I was not in the mood to atack anyone, honestly I don't care about who traced the artwork. I just pointed innacurate tracing that's not suitable for a restoration.

And you know the most funny thing ??

the fun is that the Pac and ghost used on the cocktail CPO was traced by me :D
Ghost
Pac
I'm affirmative thoose are the one used on the Cocktail CPO's tracing :D they match so perfectly :D the thing to keep in mind is that characters where traced from a source that as nothing to do with the CPO.

I've also made some crap...
eg: one I can really call crap is the Assault CPO I traced years ago from bad source (ie scan with a low res). now that I have the original CPO, I can check it and I noted a lot of innacuracies. I will correct the trace in a near future.

let say that my quality requirement has evolved over the years

I'm so confused. Are you just complaining about some random piece of vectorized artwork that isn't 100% accurate? You said in your first post that "everyone already knows there's good and bad artwork repro's" so if everyone already knows this.....???? I mean you could go on all day about reproductions that arn't up to par, its basic knowledge that repros are going to vary greatly based on the person doing them so it should come as no suprise there are imperfect recreations.

Dude, it's Ruh-Roh Raggy. For Christ's sake, how in the fuck would Scooby not be able to pronounce the guttural word 'Uh' but WOULD be able to pronounce the 'SH' sound? WTF is wrong with you?

That's some funny shit right there, Huh Scooby.

Scooby Snack Recipe

2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 cup Quaker dry oatmeal 1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 cup cocoa 1 tbsp. walnut extract
1/2 cup sugar (optional)1 oz. of finely ground herbal medicine
1/4 pound (1 stick) butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. If there is not enough liquid to mix all ingredients after five minutes of stirring, add a tiny amount of milk to aid in mixing of remaining ingredients. Taste better before cooking and adjust amount of sugar to your liking.

Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on how large you made your cookies. Can be cooked for a shorter time for chewier cookies, or a longer time for drier, crisp cookies.

Man you can find anything on the web...
