I have a chance to get Silent Scope complete tomorrow (xbox 1), My main concern is the gun says it works on hdtvs, but im reading its like 25/75% that it works/doesnt.. Anyone have any input reguarding light guns on hd tvs?

I want this game bad. I love it, and can not purchase the full arcade due to money&room Lol

ugh.. seems it works on some, but you have to crank the brightness to like 80%.. which makes the screen look like its foggy cause its so bright. which sucks. My tv is backlit so im praying I can make it work and playable.. we'll see I guess

Yeah lightguns rely on reflections from the screen. If you play any game that uses the lightgun type lens (even R.O.B. and say Captain Power is like this) the screen will flash full screen white (or some other color, I think R.O.B. saw blue) that is detected by the lense.

I am not entirely certain why HD TVs have the problem, but possibly that the white flash that occurs is not bright enough to register in the controller. Of course ambient lighting conditions can vary from house to house, so you may find people online who says their TV works but someone else with the same model may have it not work.

No they don't, they rely on the scanning of the electron beam in a CRT television. The flash records where on the screen the electron beam was at the time of the trigger pull and uses that to determine if the gun was aimed at a target or not. HDTVs do not work because LCDs and plasma screens do not 'scan' the way a CRT monitor does. Some arcade games use mechanical means to determine the location of the gun (two potentiometers on each gun to get an X/Y coordinate), but this is pretty impractical for consoles. The reason that shooters have seen such a revitalization on the Wii is because it provides a dependable way to track the aim of your 'gun', even on an HDTV.

It's possible that Silent Scope uses some custom hardware to track your aim, but if it's disc only, I doubt you'll get it to work on an HDTV with a lightgun.

EDIT: I would also add that I'm not exactly sure how guns are tracking aim in this case, Streetz mentioned that his gun says it works on HDTVs, I'm not sure exactly how it might be doing that unless it's got some kind of attachment that sits on the TV (like the Wii sensor bar).

i got the game and gun, however down an xbox right now. It says will not work with LCD or Plasma or Projection, but says will work with HD tvs. My guess is the Flat glass crts that are HD. I had one but recently gave 2 away and now do not have a crt in my house :( sucks LOL

If it's a standard light gun, it won't work on anything but a CRT...anyone claiming otherwise is lying. There is no 50/50 or anything, they DO NOT WORK as there is no beam scan to track. HD has nothing to do with it...it's the display type.

The only "light guns" that work on LCD/Plasma are ones that use LED X/Y Sensor bars that sit at the top and side of the screen. Like the Top Gun.

I have a pair, I intend on using on a MAME cab at some point.

Now there may be newer guns out at this point, but from the Xbox/PS2 generation this IS the only kind of tech that will work.

If you've ever seen a PS3 setup with Time Crisis 4 (or whichever one it was), you'll notice that there were sensors around the corners of the TV - that is how the gun registers on LCDs. Some companies make guns like that for many older systems, but most have iffy reviews at best and often must be imported to get "good" ones.

yea TC4 had the sensors I had that at one point. Like I said I was asking, I picked it up like I said, I wont have my original xbox till monday and I need to find a crt. thats my only missing piece right now
