Hi everyone

a friend had a rampart board go bad like ten years ago, so he gave me the cabinet and i put a mame board in there. everything worked fine, though i did have to rewire a few of the controls, if i remember right.

i got the rampart board repaired recently, and decided to restore the cab to its original config, which should be easy since i have the original manual.

well, im probly being really really dumb, but its NOT that easy. the manual does not have a 1 or 2 player start button. but there sure is on the cab. and im pretty sure the game had player start buttons when i first got it, so what gives!

also, when i turn the game on and enter test mode, all it wants to do is scroll up, even though nothing is being pushed, and i have dutifully rewired all my controls to match that of the manual. even if i unplug the "up" joystick wires (#18/V) the menu still perpetually scrolls upward.

now i will admit that the player 1 or 2 start button thing is weird and probably my fault, but the sticks and the other two buttons are wired correctly i think. (another weird point...pin 17/U is normally for 1 and 2 player start, right? but the rampart manual has them listed as player 1 or 2 ROTATE...which means blue or red button, i think.... the other button, the "PLACE" button, is down at pins 22/Z with everything after that being unused)

anyhow, im obviously really confused and im not sure if i have somehow misread the jamma pinout, or if maybe something is wrong with the board that i just got back, and its scrolling on its own due to some other problem that i didnt create?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a hard time following you. lets start at the beginning.

Its a 2 player rampart cabinet, correct? and the PCB is a 2 player PCB? (they made 2 player joystick and 3 player trackball versions)

Can you post some pics of what you have? Back of the control panel wiring, the pcb, Jamma harness ect?

sorry about that.

the wiring looks like a rats nest, but its all pretty straight-forward. ive been using a VOM to test continuity between the jamma plug and wherever that pin goes to.

at this point i dont have anything going to player 1 or player 2 "start" (the white buttons on the left) because the rampart manual doesnt seem to include them. but i think that originally it must have, because the buttons are there in the cab.

the biggest problem is that when you turn the game on and go into the test menu, it only scrolls upward and doesnt let you select anything.

i was able to get a game started, and at this point the controls did absolutely nothing. the directionals from the joystick did nothjing, neither did the "rotate" or "place" buttons, which would normally allow you to rotate a piece of your castle wall and then place it.

im going to take the board out in a little bit here and inspect it for damage or a splash of solder or something that might cause it to malfunction.
