I have a Rampage World Tour Version 1.0. The test menu allows for volume control - but when the game starts, the volume is automatically set at a high level. The test menu also permits for adjustment of the minimum volume level (which I have lowered as well). Finally, I have replaced the battery but nothing seems to help. I own NHL Open Ice, MK3 and Hangtime (all the same type of boards) and they work fine. I wish my cab had volume control, but it doesn't. All ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

When you go back into the menu after adjusting it, is it still set low, or is it back high? Does it change right away, or after you turn it off and back on?

it's possible that there is something wrong with the battery holder, the limiting diode, or even the RAM...

Thanks for the replys. Much appreciated. It's good to know that it is not just my board.

The lower volume options stay saved in the Test Menu (even if the power was turned off) but the game still starts at the higher volume. My board is Rom version 1.0, I wonder if this was a problem fixed in a later ROM? Also, do you think it would be possible to install a volume pot to the board to control the volume manually??

When you say it STARTS loud, are you talking about the loud BONG when it does the ROM check? It'll always do that. I thought you were talking about the sounds in the gameplay and attract sound.

And yes, you could install a pot inline of one of the wires to the speaker if you wish. 5K-ohm ought to be enough...

Modessitt - does your RWT have the same problem? If not, do you know what version Rom your board has installed? Again, I really appreciate the help.

Modessitt - it is good to know about the sound pot. I will probably go that route. Just to clarify - it is the in game sounds that are too loud and not adjustable (they do not reflect what the levels set in the test menu).

It will be a while (maybe tomorrow), but i will check to see what ROM version I have. Hadn't noticed any issues with the sound.

BTW - do y'all have dedicated machines or kits? Mine is dedicated:

Wow - great looking machine. I only have the PCB - not the full machine.

Thanks for checking - I appreciate it.

I just got a dedicated one that's doing the same thing. Anybody ever figure out why that is?

You can set the volume at whatever you want in the menu, but it always starts at a standard (slightly too loud) volume. If you open the door you can turn it down with the volume buttons.

Battery works fine, and if you go back into the settings, the minimum volume will be right back where you set it at!

I'll power mine up tomorrow after work and mess around with it a bit, I don't have this issue you guys are having, i know i've adjusted the min/max volume tho and iirc did have this problem only until i adjusted.

BTW mine is version 1.1 it says. If you go into hardware i.d., it says Rampage World Tour version 1.1, then below that says "WWF BUILD" or something like that (guess it uses the Wrestemania engine).

I have a v1.3 and v1.1 the 1.3 is a WWF Unit like yours, always thought that was strange.

Interesting. Did some reasearch on the roms in MAME.

There's two versions.

1.1 and 1.3.

The ONLY difference, is that two of the roms appear to be different. 11.54 and 11.63 ... they're both 512kb files instead of all the other roms which are 1024 roms..

Leading me to believe that FOR SOME REASON they released a rom update that changed two sound roms. Wonder why that would be? LOL

Dollars to donuts if you update the two sound roms to 1.3 it'll fix it. I'll try it tommorow.

I can't find schematics, but it looks like those two chips are either the two sound chips, or maybe they're running the engine or whatever that the o.s. runs on, either way they're by themselves and right next to the security chip... so I'll bet that was to fix this glitch.

The one i have hooked up is definitely 1.3 (no volume issues), spare is 1.1

I can hook the 1.1 up in another cabinet if really needed to possibly confirm the rev change /volume fix.

another weird thing about these boards i've noticed (atleast with all the ones i have had), on power up i always get a lil amplifier pop/crackle for a split second. only with these boards so far have i noticed this (RWT boards).

Guys, that fixed it. If yours has this issue, update to 1.3, which means burning a new 27c4001 for U63 and U54 (right next to each other). Midway called these (and U64, the security chip) the "Game Roms". The video roms and the sound roms all stayed the same.

So I don't know what else this changes in the setup, but it fixes this sound issue.
